Recent transfer reports have suggested that Stoke City are weighing up a move for England and Southampton goalkeeper Fraser Forster as a potential replacement for Jack Butland in January.

Football Insider have revealed that Gary Rowett's side are set to make a move for Forster, who has struggled for game time with the Premier League outfit this season.

The potential deal won't come as a surprise as it is likely that Jack Butland will be the subject of much speculation about his future when the transfer window reopens.

But one club that should be tempted to make Southampton an offer for Forster is Leeds United, who have a goalkeeping crisis of their own this season.

Bailey Peacock-Farrell has struggled for form this season and may have been replaced by Jamal Blackman in the starting XI, before the second-choice keeper broke his leg, an injury which has ruled him out for the season.

Forster would be a more than worthy challenger to Peacock-Farrell's starting spot at Leeds and Marcelo Bielsa could be tempted to bring him to Elland Road to help aid their promotion bid.

According to TEAMtalk, Leeds have also been linked with a move for Tom Heaton , so it remains to be seen as to who Bielsa will opt to sign when the transfer window opens.

We look at the reasons why Leeds should be chasing Forster in January.

Find out what those reasons are here....

At the age of 30, Forster will feel that he still has many more years ahead of him at the top of his game.

He has been unlucky not to force his way back into the Southampton set-up and he will be keen to find himself regular first-team football in the near future.

Forster has been capped at senior level for England and if he is to return to the international side, then he will need to get regular playing time under his belt as quickly as possible.

Leeds would be the perfect destination for him in January when the transfer window reopens.

Current first-choice goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell has come under intense scrutiny in recent weeks, and rightly so.

The youngster has made costly errors which have proved crucial at times during this season.

If Jamal Blackman hadn't have picked up an injury recently, then many Leeds fans would have expected to see him replace the Northern Irish international.

Forster would definitely be an upgrade on the goalkeeping options Marcelo Bielsa currently has at Leeds this season.
