Huddersfield Town have made no secret of their attempts to re-sign Emile Smith Rowe back in the summer.

Danny Cowley had the Arsenal playmaker on loan in the Championship last season and he returned two goals and registered two assists in 19 league appearances.

He did well, there's no denying that, but Carlos Corberan wasn't landed the 20-year-old's service back in the summer and he remained in North London.

Quiz: Which club did Huddersfield Town sign each of these 25 players from?

A report from ESPN has teased that Arsenal could now be open to sending Smith Rowe out on loan in January, which naturally has led to talk that Town could move to sign the youngster.

On the face of things, taking on a talented player like Smith Rowe makes sense, but does everything add up?

We explore a couple of reasons why Huddersfield shouldn't be looking to do this particular deal in January...

It's not a problem position

Carel Eiting enters December on the back of a November to remember. Three goals and one assist has announced him to the Huddersfield fans, with the Ajax loanee excelling alongside Lewis O'Brien and Jonathan Hogg in midfield.

He's been given a bit more licence to get forward due to the absence of Juninho Bacuna and Alex Pritchard, which has been an opportunity he has grasped with both hands.

Right now, that axis of Eiting-O'Brien-Hogg looks to be Huddersfield's best, with Bacuna, Pritchard and new signing, Alex Vallejo, providing the cover.

Simply, midfield isn't a problem for Corberan. The issues come at either end of the pitch.

Fraizer Campbell is the club's best No.9, but he does lack that prolific streak and it's a problem for Huddersfield who, in turn, lack goals.

Then, looking at the defence, Corberan is desperately short of a ball-playing centre-back to mirror his philosophy. Too many goals come from Huddersfield playing themselves into trouble and a cool head is needed on the ball at the back.

When January comes, Corberan needs the front and back of the side sorting, not the middle.

Huddersfield wouldn't be developing their own talent

Arsenal's summer decision was based on the fact that they see Smith Rowe as somebody good enough for their first-team.

Long-term, he's going to be a Gunner and even Huddersfield getting the deal over the line in January wouldn't be a solution beyond summer.

Would Corberan not be better off putting his time into players like Matty Daly in his squad?

The 19-year-old started Tuesday night's defeat in Cardiff and never really got going. However, that shouldn't impact how highly Huddersfield think of him. He's a top talent and needs nurturing.

Does bringing in Smith Rowe help him? It probably doesn't. It only pushes him further down the pecking order.

Huddersfield's time should be put into readying players like him for first-team football, not offering Smith Rowe a platform to make it in North London.
