West Brom are set to continue their pursuit of James Tavernier when the January transfer window opens having watched the Rangers man in action recently.

Albion had two bids rejected for the attacking full-back back in August, with Steven Gerrard reluctant to lose his captain for the fees offered by the Championship side.

However, according to the Daily Record, Darren Moore's men are continuing to monitor the 27-year-old and Baggies scouts were at Hampden Park to watch him play against Aberdeen on Sunday.

But, it was a disappointing afternoon for Tavernier and the Glasgow giants as they fell to a late 1-0 defeat in the cup semi-final.

Nevertheless, the former Wigan man has had a good season so far for Rangers, in which Gerrard's side have progressed into the Europa League group stages.

And, here we look at TWO reasons why Moore needs to go all-out to land Tavernier when the window opens again in the New Year...

Moore has mainly used a 3-4-1-2 formation for Albion this season, with Matt Phillips as the right-sided player.

Whilst he has done well in that role, the side have been awful defensively and it can't help playing an attacking winger in such a role.

Should Tavernier arrive, he would be ideally suited to the wing-back job Albion need doing and that could help the side improve defensively, whilst keeping a good balance going forward.

Over the years, Tavernier has had struggles in his game that have prevented him from reaching his potential, however, he is starting to find a consistent level now.

The captaincy at Rangers has brought added responsibility and his game has gone up a level under Gerrard.

He has been a key player in big European games, which highlights how he has improved defensively and few have ever doubted his ability going forward.
