Swansea City are hoping to tie talented winger Daniel James down to a long-term deal, with the 21-year-old entering the final 18 months of his current contract.

The youngster has made a huge impression for the Welsh side this season, with his remarkable solo goal in the FA Cup against Brentford on Sunday a clear indication of the ability he has.

And, the BBC are reporting that the Swans are prepared to offer the player 'vastly improved' terms to stay at the club.

Whether he will sign remains to be seen, particularly after he was controversially denied a move to Leeds United on deadline day last month.

The Whites thought they had secured the player, only for Swansea to back out of the deal at the very last minute.

Despite that, James has settled back into Graham Potter's team with ease and has made big contributions since, but that doesn't mean he will sign a new contract.

And, here we look at two reasons why he should not sign the deal and instead keep his options open...

The way Swansea handled his proposed move to Leeds in January must surely have annoyed James.

He travelled to Yorkshire expecting to sign for Marcelo Bielsa's men but instead was left waiting as calls and emails were left unanswered, it was pretty disrespectful from the club.

James' agent made comments that showed they were unhappy with Swansea and that will be on his mind when it comes to negotiations.

Perhaps more importantly, James will have a lot of options open to him in the summer.

Potter is doing a magnificent job with the Swans at the minute but the reality is they are a club that don't seem to be showing much ambition, with uncertainty surrounding the ownership too.

Therefore, the speedy winger should look to further his career elsewhere.

His ability is there for all to see and with 12 months left on his deal he could be a very attractive option to a lot of top-flight clubs, whilst Leeds are sure to be interested once again.
