West Brom's Dwight Gayle continued his excellent form with a clever back-heeled finish against Leeds on Saturday to make it nine league goals for the season.

The 28-year-old joined on loan from Newcastle in the summer and has made an instant impact.

Gayle has hit his nine goals in just 14 league games and his ruthlessness in front of goal is a key reason behind Darren Moore's men being the top scorers in the Championship.

Given that, Albion are certain to be keen on signing Gayle on a permanent basis, but that may be challenging.

Chronicle Live revealed that the striker is open to returning to the north east next season, whilst the Baggies don't have a buyout clause in the current agreement.

However, we feel that returning to the Magpies would be a poor decision for Gayle and here we outline TWO reasons why he shouldn't go through with that...

Rafa Benitez is understandably worshipped by Newcastle fans but he isn't a fan of Gayle.

That much was clear when he decided to let the striker go in the summer, despite his side's worries in the final third.

Many feel that Newcastle are still a striker short, and the fact that Benitez sanctioned a move for the former Crystal Palace man suggests he has serious doubts about his ability at the top level.

Obviously, that would change if Newcastle are relegated, but with the Spaniard in charge, that seems unlikely.

When Gayle arrived at The Hawthorns, Salomon Rondon went the other way and he could impact Gayle's chances of making an impact on Tyneside.

After a slow start, the Venezuelan is starting to show what he is all about.

He was key to the recent win over Watford and scored two as they beat Bournemouth last time out.

Rondon has the physicality that Benitez wants in a striker, and if he maintains that form, a permanent move seems inevitable and it will mean Gayle is limited to little game time.
