Queens Park Rangers remain on the lookout for a successor to Steve McClaren, with former player Marc Bircham the latest to be interviewed for the job.

That's according to West London Sport, who have revealed that the ex-player is a contender for the main job at Loftus Road.

Bircham made over 150 appearances for the R's in his playing career and has had various spells working as a coach at the club since hanging up his boots too.

The obvious risk to appointing the 40-year-old is that this would be his first full-time managerial role and that may put those making the big decisions off.

However, you have to start somewhere and here we outline TWO reasons why Bircham would actually be the ideal canddiate for the job...

He knows the club

This is a pretty weak argument in most cases but Bircham's passion and drive to succeed at a club he loves could be ideal in these circumstances.

You often see some managers move from job to job without seemingly having a care in the world, yet this would be a dream role for the former midfielder which means you can guarantee he would give his all.

He understands what the fans want to see from the team and could build a side that they enjoy watching.

He is ready to make the step up

Perhaps more importantly, Bircham is ready to make the step into management and could be the ideal man to bring through the younger players.

He has worked for the R's as a coach and has been a number two at Millwall and in America as well, so he has decent experience in the game.
