West Brom are reportedly locked in a transfer tussle with Championship promotion rivals Fulham to the potential signing of Yoane Wissa according to Telefoot.
Wissa has been hugely impressive with FC Lorient this season, and has scored 16 goals in 30 appearances in the French second-tier this term.
A move to West Brom is likely to be tempting for Wissa in the summer transfer window, with the Baggies currently sat second in the Championship table, and six-points clear of Fulham with nine games remaining in this year’s campaign.
However, due to recent off-the-field events, that push for promotion into the Premier League has been put on hold for the time being, with no scheduled return date being put in place as of yet by the relevant authorities.
With the French football season being cancelled, Wissa could potentially be tempted by a move to England in the near future.
We take a look at TWO pros and TWO cons to West Brom targeting a move for Wissa in the summer transfer window.
Pro: He’s a player in fine form.
Wissa has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for FC Lorient this season, with 16 goals in 30 appearances for the club.
If the 23-year-old can adjust to his new surroundings quickly and play with the same confidence that he is with FC Lorient, then West Brom will have some player on their hands.
Con: He hasn’t got experience in English football.
With any player that signs for an English club from a team outside of the country, there will always be concerns as to whether they are capable of adapting to the physical demands of English football.
If the Baggies are playing their football in the Premier League, then Slaven Bilic can’t afford for any potential incomings to take a significant amount of time to adjust to their new surroundings.
They might be better off signing players with more experience in English football instead.
Pro: He’s got age on his side.
Wissa is still only 23, which suggest that he’s got a bright future ahead of him if his performances this season are anything to go by.
It’s good to see that Slaven Bilic is looking towards the future with West Brom, as they need to look to replace the likes of Callum Robinson, who will return to Sheffield United at the end of this season.
Wissa could be a gamble worth taking in the summer for the Baggies.
Con: Do West Brom need another winger?
Slaven Bilic has a number of options in wide areas available to him this season, and you have to question whether Wissa would be getting anywhere near enough game time if he signed for the club.
It seems difficult to imagine that he’d be getting in the starting XI ahead of the likes of Matt Phillips (pictured above) anytime soon, so should West Brom be looking at signing other players in different positions instead ahead of a potential return to the Premier League.
