West Bromwich Albion are amongst a number of clubs in the top two divisions who are monitoring non-league Whyteleafe striker Ronald Sobowale, following his impressive form so far this season, according to the Daily Mail.

Slaven Bilic's side have already been linked with a return move for Newcastle United forward Dwight Gayle ahead of the January transfer window, as the Baggies look to improve the productivity in front of goal coming from their forwards, with West Brom relying on finding goals from all over the pitch to sustain a promotion challenge so far this term.

West Brom brought in both Charlie Austin and Kenneth Zohore during the summer transfer window, but the pair have struggled to replace the goals scored by both Jay Rodriguez and Gayle so far this term, netting just three goals between them in the Baggies' first 14 league games.

It is therefore no surprise to see West Brom being linked with moves to bring in other strikers during the January transfer window, with Bilic wanting his side to improve their ability to kill off opponents when they have the momentum in games.

Here then, we take a look at two reasons why West Brom should look to sign Sobowale and two reasons they should probably pursue other targets in January...

Pro - A striker in real form unlike current options

Sobowale is enjoying an excellent campaign with Whyteleafe in the Bet Victor South East league having registered ten goals in eleven appearances for the club so far this campaign, with the 22-year-old's pace, power and finishing ability making him a real stand out player at that level and highlighting his potential to operate at a much higher level in the football league.

That suggests that Sobowale would arrive at which ever club offers him a professional contract, with the striker currently on trial at Championship rivals Middlesbrough, full of confidence and belief which something that the Baggies' current options have been lacking in front of goal so far this season.

Given Sobowale's goal scoring exploits so far this term it is no surprise to see him being linked with moves to a higher level, but the level of clubs that are showing interest highlights his potential to maybe come in and have an impact swiftly, which is something West Brom will be needing in January.

Pro - Potential to develop under Bilic

Bilic has already shown so far this season that he is willing to give game time to promising young players, with the former West Ham boss electing to put his faith in the likes of Nathan Ferguson and Kyle Edwards so far this campaign - and in Ferguson in particular the Baggies are certainly being rewarded for that faith in youth.

Therefore were West Brom to bring in Sobowale, Bilic could help the 22-year-old mature into an effective performer at Championship level, which would take time given the size of the step up he would be making, but having a manager who will put his faith in you to develop will only enhance the striker's confidence and belief.

Con - West Brom's need for guaranteed scorer in the Championship

However, one reason why West Brom should be cautious about signing Sobowale is because the Baggies have a real need for a more instant fix up front, with a proven reliable scorer needed to help the club fire themselves back into the Premier League during the second half of the campaign.

Bilic would have surely believed that Austin would have delivered, having previously enjoyed impressive scoring spells in the Championship with both Burnley and Queens Park Rangers, but so far the former Southampton striker has been unable to find his best form managing to score just one league goal so far.

That means the Baggies will be in need of signing someone who can come in and be the player to make that all important difference in the last third in the second half of the campaign, and to ask a player who has never featured in the football league before to come in and do that would be a risk.

Con - The competition for his signature

West Brom are one of just a number of teams showing interest in the striker, who started his career in the youth ranks of Chelsea, with the likes of Premier League Leicester City and Watford both interested, and also some other Championship sides including Middlesbrough and Fulham.

The Baggies can not really afford to be chasing a move for the 22-year-old and then fail to sign him, meaning they could also have wasted time trying to identify other targets - and so it might be better to allow another one of the teams interested in him secure his signature.
