With Steve Cooper being appointed manager of Swansea City on Thursday, the 39-year-old will be looking to add some quality additions to his squad before the new Championship campaign kicks off in August.

Therefore, it is of little surprise that he has already been linked with a move for one of the third tier's most exciting prospects.

According to Football Insider, Swansea are reportedly interested in signing Peterborough United winger Siriki Dembele as they look to rebuild following the sale of Dan James to Manchester United.

If this turns out to be true, it is imperative that Cooper consider both the positives and the negatives that the 22-year-old could have on the club's fortunes over the coming years before committing to a deal.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons based on Dembele's exploits during his career.

Check them out below...

He sparkled at times for Peterborough last season

A mainstay in Peterborough's starting eleven during the 2018/19 campaign, Dembele produced some real moments of quality for Darren Ferguson's side with performances against Luton Town and Gillingham creating headlines in League One.

Although he was powerless to prevent Posh from missing out on the play-offs in May, the fact that he ended the year with 14 goal contributions demonstrates just how big of a talent he really is.

If he can match, or even exceed this level of form for Swansea in the second tier next season, they could end up having a real gem on their hands.

He has bags of potential which Cooper could unlock

Whilst Dembele has struggled for consistency at times over the past two years, it is glaringly obvious that under the right manager, he could take his game to new heights.

With Cooper being the mastermind behind England's under-17 World Cup final success in 2017, he has copious amounts of experience of getting the very best out of young players and so will be confident that he can carry on this trend with the former Grimsby Town ace.

He has never played at Championship level before

Although Dembele has all the skills needed to thrive in the Championship, the fact that he has never played at this level before in his career should act as a warning to Swansea.

If they do end up signing the winger and he cannot adapt to the sheer ferociousness that the second tier offers up week-in, week-out, the Jacks may have to resort to loaning him out or even selling him in the future.

He is not the right type of player the club should be targeting to replace James

Having sold James to Manchester United for a reported fee of £15m, it could be argued that Swansea should now be a bit more ambitious in the transfer market as they have significant funds to spend.

Therefore, whilst Dembele has bags of potential, if the Swans are serious about achieving success in the Championship next season, they should be switching their attention towards players who have a track-record of producing the goods in this division.
