Time is seemingly running out for Nathan Jones as manager of Stoke City, as the Potters continue to sit rock bottom of the Sky Bet Championship table.

The Staffordshire outfit are still searching for their first league win of the season, and have managed to pick up just two points from their opening nine league matches.

Despite dominating the first-half against Nottingham Forest on Friday night, they still ended up losing the game 3-2, with plenty of supporters demanding change at the bet365 Stadium.

Reports from TEAMtalk claim that Stoke have already identified four potential replacements for Jones, with David Moyes, Michael O'Neill and Mark Robins being mentioned.

The final name said to be of interest of Stoke is former manager Tony Pulis, who has been out of a job since the end of last season after being sacked by Middlesbrough.

Here, we take a look two pros and two cons to reappointing Pulis as Jones' replacement...

Pro 1: Experience

One thing that Pulis possesses that Jones doesn't is experience - experience of succeeding in the Championship, and experience of getting out of it no matter how many years ago it was.

There's no doubting that Jones is an up and coming manager, so it would be harsh to write him off just because of his lack of experience.

But Pulis would undoubtedly be a safe and secure option, who knows what it takes to eradicate defensive errors and pick up results in the second tier.

Pro 2: He could reunite the fans

Despite what other fans have made of Pulis at Middlesbrough and other clubs, he is still a hugely popular figure at Stoke City.

He transformed the club's fortunes, guiding them to automatic promotion to the Premier League in 2008, and taking them to the FA Cup final in 2011.

He knows the club and what the fans expect, and having a familiar face back at the club could help get fans back on-side after a dismal start to the season.

Con 1: His style of football

Whilst Jones' style of play is all about attacking and scoring goals, Pulis' style of football has often been criticised by fans of other clubs.

At Middlesbrough, fans lost patience with the experienced manager, lambasting his direct style of football, and highlighting the need for pace in the team.

Stoke have plenty of flair players who love to get the ball down, pass it around and create chances, and whether they'd work well with Pulis' tactics is unlikely.

Con 2: Previous managerial stints

Pulis' most recent managerial spells have really tarnished his repuatation as a manager.

His time at West Bromwich Albion turned sour towards the end of his tenure, and he was subsequently sacked the season they got relegated from the Premier League.

Despite having a large budget at Middlesbrough, too, he failed to take them up to the Premier League, despite finishing in the play-off spots in 2017/18.

There are better options out there for Stoke.
