Sheffield Wednesday have parted company with Jack Hunt this week, with the right-back linking up with Bristol City ahead of the 2018/19 campaign.

After short speculation, Hunt has agreed a three-year deal with Bristol City, ending a three-year association with Sheffield Wednesday.

The 27-year-old’s first two years at Hillsborough were successful, with Sheffield Wednesday challenging for promotion back to the Premier League.

Carlos Carvalhal, with Hunt a regular in his side, led the Owls to back-to-back play-off appearances, but was unable to help Wednesday over the line in their quest to secure a Premier League return.

Last season was a disappointing campaign, with Hunt departing off the back of a mid-table finish.

The reaction to Hunt’s departure from Hillsborough was mixed, with some disappointed, but others seeing the logic behind the move.

Here at FLW, we take a look at TWO pros and TWO cons to Hunt’s departure from Hillsborough…

Hunt’s sale has come at a reported fee of £1.6m.

With money tight at Hillsborough, that’s a little boost for Jos Luhukay’s transfer kitty.

Departures are needed, but so are arrivals.

Arguably, Wednesday are weaker, whilst Bristol City are now stronger.

Hunt is improving a direct rivals in the Championship, whilst leaving Wednesday needing to strengthen their options.

Hunt’s contract was running down, with the right-back becoming a free agent next summer.

Selling him in this window has left Wednesday with a decent fee.

Hunt is amongst the Championship’s most consistent right-backs, but his departure has left Liam Palmer in possession of the jersey.

Palmer isn’t a bad player, but he’s not at the same level as Hunt.

A replacement is probably needed.
