It seems clear that Sheffield United want a new striker in before the window shuts this summer and Scott Hogan seems to be the one touted most right now.

Indeed, according to Football Insider, the Blades are working on trying to get him in on loan before the deadline passes at the end of this month.

The player is currently at Aston Villa but has been out of contention so far this season and looks set for potentially another season at the club where he plays second fiddle.

For someone of his talent, though, he needs to really be playing and so it might make sense that the Blades are trying to bring him in.

With that in mind, then, we're taking a closer look at the potential deal and across the following slides assessing what the two pros and two cons would be to getting Hogan to Bramall Lane...

On form Hogan can be one of the best strikers in the league - there's no escaping that.

He was flying for Brentford and at times was on form for Villa last season as he threatened to get back to his very best.

If the Blades can get that out of him he'd be a top signing.

Most strikers are confidence players and it just seems as though Hogan is not confident at the moment.

Plenty of good players have suffered with it at this level and if the Blades sign him and things do not improve then they'll not have gained much.

They'll want to see that he's ready to start afresh with them.

Chris Wilder turned Leon Clarke into one of the most feared forwards in the league last season despite a career that's been up and down at times.

If he can do the same with Scott Hogan the club will have a top striker on their hands and that is what the hope should be if he arrives.

Hogan's Villa career has not been helped by injury problems.

When he has looked ready to get back into the fold and back up to speed something has usually caused him a setback.

If the Blades sign him, they'll want him to be fit for the whole of the campaign.
