After a hugely impressive campaign for Queens Park Rangers last term, it probably comes as no surprise to see that midfielder Luke Freeman has departed for the Premier League.

Sheffield United have won the race for the exciting playmaker - the Blades’ first signing since making their long-awaited return to the top-flight, as Chris Wilder looks to help cement his side’s position in the Premier League next term.

The 27-year-old joined the R’s from Bristol City in 2017, and has since established himself as one of the R’s most important players over the last few years.

The former Stevenage midfielder scored nine goals and produced eight assists for the Championship side last season, but has now completed a move to Bramall Lane, leaving QPR without one of their best players going into the new season.

In light of this significant transfer news, we take a look at two pros and two cons to QPR selling Freeman to Sheffield United...

Con - His overall importance to the team

Quite simply, Freeman leaving is a massive blow for the R's.

He was often the heartbeat of their attack and their most creative outlet last season, and they will be losing so many goals next season following his move to Bramall Lane.

He is one of the most exciting players in the Championship, so it would be a massive blow for any club if they were to lose a player of his ability.

Con - Very hard to replace

Replacing a player who hit nearly double figures in both goals and assists in one season is hard enough, but it will be even harder for QPR.

They have had their fair share of financial issues over the last few seasons, especially in the last year where they were hit with a transfer embargo.

To replace a player of Freeman's quality for a reported fee of only £5million will also be a huge task for Warburton.

Pro - No unrest in the changing room

Given where Sheffield United are right now and how QPR's season went last year, you can't blame for Freeman for having his head turned.

When a Premier League club comes knocking, your eyes are solely focused on one thing, and that's a move away from your current club.

His team-mates would surely understand why he moved on and in that sense, there'll be no knock on morale even though he will be missed.

Pro - Warburton likes finding bargains

Warburton is known for being a master at working under a limited budget, though, so if anyone is to find an adequate replacement for Freeman, it's him.

At Nottingham Forest, he signed Barrie McKay from Rangers for a reported fee of £500,000, and despite his form really dipping in recent years, he was a very impressive player for Forest in his debut season at the City Ground.

He is just one example of Warburton's shrewd bargain buys.
