Having already secured the services of six new players this summer, Queens Park Rangers boss Mark Warburton may be about to bolster his squad by signing Josh Cullen from West Ham United.

According to the South London Press, the Hoops are reportedly interested in bringing the Hammers ace in on a season-long loan with Charlton Athletic also keeping tabs on the midfielder.

If this is indeed true, it is paramount that Warburton considers both the positives and the negatives that Cullen could have on the R's' fortunes next season before committing to a switch.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to the Hoops sealing a deal for the 23-year-old based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He showed real signs of promise in the third-tier last season

Loaned out to Charlton last season by West Ham, Cullen showed some real signs of promise for Lee Bowyer's side as he helped them achieve promotion to the Championship via the play-offs in May.

Although he misses a significant chunk of the year due a shoulder injury, the midfielder still managed to record nine goal contributions in all competitions.

Blessed with an abundance of creativity, Cullen could prove to be a real hit at Loftus Road if he can replicate the levels that he displayed for the Addicks in a Hoops shirt next season.

He could provide the Hoops with an outstanding level of versatility

Whereas he is arguably at his best when playing as a central midfielder, Cullen's outstanding versatility saw him fill in admirably in a more defensive role for Charlton during the previous campaign as well as a winger.

With injuries and suspensions being part and parcel of every Championship season, Warburton could find it extremely beneficial to have the former Bradford City loanee at his disposal over the next 10 months as he could turn to him at times of need.

Cons

He is relatively unproven at Championship level

Despite excelling at League One level for Charlton, the fact that Cullen has only played 12 games in the second-tier during his career should act as a warning to the Hoops.

Although there is no doubting that Cullen possesses a wide array of skills, he may struggle to cope with the sheer competitiveness that the Championship is famed for.

Therefore, considering that are no guarantees that Cullen will able to thrive during the upcoming campaign, it may make more sense for Warburton to target a midfielder who has a proven track record of producing the goods in this particular division instead.

He may struggle to fill the void left by Freeman

One of the R's star performers last season, Luke Freeman played a major role in helping the club avoid relegation by registering 14 goal contributions in the Championship.

Given just how influential he was for the Hoops, his departure to Sheffield United earlier this week would have been a bitter pill to swallow for everyone associated with the club.

Whereas Cullen operates in a similar role to Freeman, it would be a big ask for him to fill the void left by the 27-year-old and so unless Warburton has another player lined up as a replacement, it may be beneficial for him to steer clear of the Irons ace.
