Despite having only taken over the reins at Queens Park Rangers in May, Mark Warburton seems determined to get his business done early this summer ahead of the new Championship campaign.

Having already secured the services of Luke Amos, Dominic Ball, Yoann Barbet, Liam Kelly, Lee Wallace, Connor Masterson and Matt Smith, the 56-year-old could be about to make his eighth signing of the transfer window.

According to the Daily Record (8:38am, 03/07/19), Warburton is reportedly interested in bringing Barrie McKay to Loftus Road from Swansea City having previously coached the winger during his time in charge of Rangers and Nottingham Forest.

If this is indeed true, it is paramount that R's boss considers both the positives and the negatives that the 24-year-old could have on the club's fortunes next season before tabling a bid.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to the Hoops sealing a deal for McKay based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He could end up thriving once more under Warburton

Despite making his professional debut for Rangers in 2012, McKay had to wait until Warburton arrived at Ibrox three years later to finally receive a chance to secure a permanent place in the club's starting eleven.

Outstanding throughout the 2015/16 season, the winger helped the club achieve promotion to the Scottish Premiership by scoring nine goals in all competitions whilst also registering 13 assists.

Following an impressive spell during the following campaign, McKay linked up with Warburton once again at Forest where he was directly involved in 12 goals for the East Midlands-based side.

If he can recreate this kind of form for the Hoops next season, he will unquestionably be a big addition to their squad.

He has demonstrated real signs of promise in the Championship before

With two Championship seasons now under his belt, it is fair to say that McKay has settled in at this particular level and thus will be confident of taking his game to new heights over the coming years.

Whereas he has struggled at times with consistency, the winger has also demonstrated some real signs of promise which could be built upon by Warburton at Loftus Road if he can convince the Scotsman to join him in London.

Cons

He was relatively ineffective for Swansea last season

Although a great deal was expected of McKay at Swansea City when he joined last summer, he unfortunately failed to live up to expectations at the Liberty Stadium last season.

Despite appearing on 30 occasions in the Championship, he was only able to be directly involved in seven goals with the emergence of Dan James forcing to him to watch on more often than now during the closing stages of the year.

Whilst it would be unfair to rule him out completely, the last thing that the Hoops need is another player on their books who can only deliver on a sporadic basis and thus it may be worth them avoiding McKay.

It may require a significant bid to lure him away from Swansea

Considering that McKay is contracted until 2021 at Swansea, the R's may have to fork out a significant amount of money in order to bring him to the club.

If this turns out to be the case, it may be Warburton switching his focus towards signing a striker instead as whereas he has a number of wingers at his disposal already, Matt Smith's move to Millwall has left the Hoops relatively light up-front.
