With new manager Mark Warburton keen to put his own stamp on Queens Park Rangers' squad ahead of the upcoming campaign, it is not at all surprising that he has started his transfer business early this summer.

Having already secured the services of Yoann Barbet and Liam Kelly this month, the 56-year-old could be about to make his third signing of the window.

According to West London Sport, Warburton is reportedly eyeing up a loan move for Aston Villa striker Scott Hogan.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that the former Brentford manager considers both the positives and the negatives that signing the 27-year-old could have on the Hoops' fortunes next season before committing to a deal.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to QPR sealing an agreement with Villa based on Hogan's career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He was lethal at Championship level during his time at Brentford

Although it is fair to say that he has struggled considerably since moving to Villa in 2018, there is no reason why Hogan cannot bounce back at Loftus Road, especially if he takes inspiration from his last spell in London.

Whilst leading the line for Brentford, the forward rattled in an incredible total of 21 goals in 31 Championship appearances.

Whereas it may be a tough ask for him to match or even exceed this total for the Hoops next season, he could still prove to be a fantastic addition if he can provide a regular source of goals for Warburton's side.

He could turn out to be the perfect replacement for Nahki Wells

QPR's top-scorer last season, Nahki Wells fired in nine goals whilst also providing six assists for his team-mates as he helped the club avoid relegation to League One.

However, having now returned to his parent-club Burnley, the Hoops desperately need to find a worthy successor for him and therefore signing Hogan could turn out to be somewhat of a masterstroke.

Like Wells, the Republic of Ireland international loves to run in behind and can be an extremely clinical finisher when playing at his maximum.

Cons

Hogan has struggled massively in the second-tier since his move to Villa

Having been signed for £9.45m (via Transfermarkt) in January 2017 by Villa, Hogan was expected to score the goals that would secure promotion for his new side later that year.

Yet this unfortunately wasn't the case as following two barren years with the Lions, he was loaned out to Sheffield United where his struggles continued.

Considering the fact that he only scored twice last season, bringing him in would be a huge risk for QPR to take as he has been devoid of any sort of form since his time with Brentford.

There is no guarantee that he will be an upgrade on QPR's existing options

Whereas Matt Smith was hardly prolific last season for the Hoops, he still managed to score four more goals than Hogan did for Villa and United despite playing alongside considerably worse players.

Therefore, based on his recent exploits, it is not certain that the former Rochdale striker will be an upgrade on the aforementioned target man.

Taking this into consideration, Warburton may benefit more from switching his focus to signing a different forward rather than wasting his time on Hogan.
