QPR may have found a potential replacement for the recently departed Steve McClaren, after reports emerged claiming that the London club have approached Troyes manager Rui Almeida about taking over at Loftus Road.

Almeida took over at the French side in the summer, and they currently sit in the Ligue 2 play-off places with seven games of the season remaining, having been relegated from Ligue 1 last season.

Rangers currently sit 18th in the Championship, just five points clear of the relegation zone after Saturday's 4-0 defeat at league leaders Norwich, where McClaren's former assistant John Eustace took charge of the side.

According to Portuguese paper Record, QPR have approached Almeida as they search for someone to take over from McClaren with just six games of the season remaining.

So, would Almeida be a good replacement for the former England manager at Loftus Road?

Here, we take a look at two pros and two cons to the potential appointment.

Pro: He could lift the team

When Almeida took over at Troyes, they had just suffered immediate relegation from Ligue 1 following a single season in the top flight.

While sides sometimes struggle to recover from such an anti-climax, Almeida has lifted his side into a play-off spot to get them competing for promotion once more, and while the objective would be different, he could lift Rangers in the same way.

Pro: Determination to prove himself

While Almeida has taken on several jobs previously, you feel none of them will have given him the sort of coverage he will get if he moves to Loftus Road.

That would be a big motivating factor for the Portuguese. Success in London could propel him into the spotlight and open up several new opportunities for him, but only if he delivers for QPR first.

Con: He has relegation form

Almeida's last job prior to taking over at Troyes posed a similar remit to the one he would be given at QPR, and it didn't end well.

In February 2017 Almeida was handed the reigns at struggling Ligue 1 side Bastia as they looked to climb out of the relegation zone, but the Portuguese could win just three of his 11 games in charge as the Corsican side dropped to the bottom of the table by the end of the season.

Admittedly Bastia were in a much worse position both on and off the pitch than QPR currently are, but it is still not a record that inspires much confidence.

Con: Uncharted territory

The issue that will always be pointed out when a manager like Almeida takes over in England is that he has never managed here before.

Indeed, in Almeida's case, he has never managed in club football outside of France before. Therefore there will of course be concerns about Almeida's ability to adapt to the style of play, atmosphere, language among other things if he moves here.

With so little time left in the season, if he doesn't catch on quick, it could cause a big problem for QPR.
