Having led his side to a ninth place finish in the Championship last month, Martin O'Neill will be aiming to go one step better next season by launching a sustained push for promotion.

Yet in order to achieve this, it is imperative that the 67-year-old gets his recruitment spot on this summer as a failure to do so could result in the Reds moving backwards.

With the transfer window well underway in England, it is not at all surprising that Forest have been linked with a move for one of the most exciting prospects in Swedish football.

According to Fotboll Direkt (as quoted by NottinghamshireLive), the Midlands-based outfit are reportedly interested in signing Ostersunds FK winger Hosam Aiesh having been impressed by his performances in the Allsvenskan over the past 12 months.

If this is indeed true, the Reds must consider both the positives and the negatives that signing the winger could have on their fortunes next season before committing to a deal.

With this in mind, we have set out two pros and two cons based on Aiesh's exploits during his career.

Check them out below...

Pros

He was fantastic for Ostersunds last season

Although it would be harsh to judge Aiesh solely on his performances during the 2019 Allsvenskan campaign given that it only started at the end of March, the fact that he was in cracking form for Ostersunds last year suggests that he could be worth taking a punt on.

In 23 league appearances for the Swedish side, the winger was able to provide 12 assists for his team-mates whilst also scoring three goals as he helped them finish sixth in the standings.

If he can replicate this kind of form for Forest in the Championship, he could prove to be a fantastic signing for the club.

He would offer sufficient back-up to Joe Lolley

Easily the Reds' best player during the 2018/19 campaign, Joe Lolley was utterly exceptional throughout the year with his 22 direct goal contributions allowing the club to secure a place in the top-ten in May.

However, it could be argued that an over-reliance on the 26-year-old to deliver the goods was one of the key reasons for why Forest were not able to force their way into the play-offs.

Therefore, by signing Aiesh, O'Neill will be bringing in a player who could provide sufficient back-up to Lolley by providing a threat as an impact substitute at the very least.

Cons

He may find it difficult to adjust to English football

When you consider that Aiesh has played the entirety of his career in his homeland, he may struggle to make the adjustments to his game that are needed to thrive in English football.

One of the most competitive leagues in world football, the Championship can be a very daunting place for those who have never experienced it before and so if the winger does join, he will have to make an immediate impact or risk being left behind.

He is far from prolific in-front of goal (image needed of Aiesh)

Despite being used from time to time as a centre-forward by Ostersunds, when you look into Aiesh's goal-scoring record throughout his career, it is far from impressive.

Having never scored more than five goals in a single season for any of the three clubs that he has played for, it is glaringly obvious that if Forest are looking for a goal-scoring midfielder, they must steer clear of the Sweden international at all costs.
