Philippe Montanier was sacked by owner Fawaz Al Hasawi on Saturday evening when his side drew 0-0 at Birmingham City just hours before his dismissal.
The collapse of the takeover by a US consortium led by John Jay Moores on Friday night, led to protests at Saturday’s match with fans calling for Fawaz to leave the club.
With Fawaz remaining as owner and chairman, the Kuwaiti businessman took the decision to dismiss Montanier of his duties with the search for a new manager underway.
It was reported by the Nottingham Post that Al Hasawi had recently made contact with the former Brighton boss Oscar Garcia to become the new Forest boss, an appointment that would no doubt cause some debate.
Whether Garcia, the current Red Bull Salzburg boss, is the man to help the Reds climb the league table remains to be seen.
