Norwich City look set to strengthen their promotion push with the signing of Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Alex Pritchard.

Championship rivals Brighton had previously agreed an £8m fee with Spurs for the 23-year-old and he looked set for a move to the AMEX Stadium, before a last ditch bid from the Canaries.

The Argus are reporting that Chris Hughton's bid for Pritchard is now is serious doubt due to the wages that recently relegated Norwich could offer.

The former England under-21 international has previously enjoyed a very successful loan spell with Brentford in the Championship, where he scored 12 goals and recorded 9 nine assists in 47 games.

However, his progress stalled last season as he was injured for the first six months of the season and then moved on loan to West Brom, where he played just 73 minutes of Premier League football for the Baggies.

Norwich fans will have reason to be both optimistic and cautious about the imminent arrival of Pritchard.

With that in mind, here are 2 pros and 2 cons to Norwich City signing Alex Pritchard...

Pro 1 - Creativity

Pritchard's record with Swindon in League One and Brentford in the Championship shows that he knows just how to carve open a defence, and this has made him one of the most sought after playmakers in 2015.

He scored 8 goals in 44 games in all competitions for Swindon, recording and impressive 10 assists along the way and his record at Griffin Park was just as impressive.

Norwich struggled in the final third last season and the 23-year-old will go some way to help ease Alex Neil's troubles.

Con 1 - Lacking serious game time

Last summer a serious injury meant Pritchard required surgery on his ankle, which ruled him out until early February which was a huge blow for the 23-year-old.

The playmaker then turned down Championship offers to join Premier League West Brom on as he looked to get some game time at a higher level, however that didn't work out as planned.

Pritchard was also left out of Tottenham's pre-season tour, meaning that his fitness may not match that of some his new team mates.

Pro 2 - Potential game changer

Pritchard showed at Brentford that he has the potential to change a game with a goal or an assist, should his team need it.

His ability from set-pieces makes him a threat with a dead ball, hence his impressive goal and assist record for both the Bees and Swindon Town.

Should Norwich find themselves chasing a game next season as they look to achieve promotion at the first time of asking, Pritchard could be the man that Alex Neil can turn to when looking for a way through.

Con 2 - Big price tag

Brighton had reportedly agreed an £8m fee for Pritchard and Norwich are expected to have matched that bid in order to discuss terms with the player.

That price tag is a fairly high one for a Championship club and the pressure will certainly be on Pritchard to perform at Carrow Road.

That may have an impact on his performances as fans will be expecting something special from the playmaker, particularly given his previous record.
