Newcastle have today confirmed the signing of Dwight Gayle and the Toon Army will be hoping that Gayle can fire the Magpies back up to the Premier League.

Goals weren't too easy to come by last season on Tyneside, as they only scored 44 goals in the whole of their  relegation season.

The attackers weren't prime contributors to this total as well, with goals spread out across the team and their blunt strike force was a sewing motif amid their plight.

Rafa Benitez will no doubt be hoping that the signing of Gayle will be the guaranteed goals needed to guarantee a swift return to the Premier League.

However this move does come with some doubts - and in this article Football League World's Jack Sharp looks at TWO pros and TWO cons to Newcastle's new £10m signing, Dwight Gayle

Pro - Guaranteed goals

Gayle found appearances very hard to come by at Crystal Palace last season, however when the 25-year old did make it onto the pitch he made a very good impression.

Scoring 7 goals in 20 games with 8 of those appearances from off the bench, the live wire forward is a guaranteed goal corer, and when compared to last season's attackers at St James's Park, had an exemplary record last campaign.

Gayle is an out and out goalscorer, something Newcastle have been missing for some time now.

Pro - Outstanding pace

It is no doubt that the Championship is an incredibly competitive and extremely difficult league.

Benitez will need something special about their side in order for them to ensure that they can get promoted, and the pure pace of the new arrival is something that will be giving Championship defences nightmares.

Gayle was used as more of an impact sub by the Eagles, perhaps not giving him the chance to exploit defences in the way he could if he was consistently starting games; if he was given more of a chance to show his  pure pace and clinical nature Palace could've avoided the rut they endured during the second half of the campaign.

Con - Currently prone to injury

In the 2015/16 season Gayle faced two spells on the sidelines with injury.

Both of the spells were because of thigh problems, a problem which looks like it could be a reoccurring issue for the 5ft 9in striker.

The Toon Army will need Gayle to be present throughout the season to ensure that they have the best chance of promotion, and with his current injury concerns, it is looking very unlikely that he would be available for the whole campaign.

Gayle's persistent ailments will be a major issue for all parties, and all will be hoping that no issues arise during the upcoming campaign.

Con - Lack of Physical presence

Unlike the Premier League, the Sky Bet Championship is an extremely physical league, and Gayle doesn't necessarily have the assets to deal with the physicality, it would seem.

Standing at 5ft 9in and in no way renowned for physical credentials, the nimble frontman may find it hard against some of the league's biggest players.

Although this point could be swiftly countered with the fact that the former Palace possesses a serious amount of pace to combat the issue of physicality.

If the ex-Posh star is starting a game and starts to tire and lose pace towards the end, he could start getting bullied by defences.

This could hinder Gayle's chances of starting and playing for a prolonged period of time in games, however all associated with the club will be hoping that it won't be an issue.
