Ross McCormack is hot property. We have barely finished the season and the Scottish international has already been linked with Crystal Palace, Norwich, Aston Villa and, of course, Newcastle United.

Whilst the 29-year-old will take his time assessing his options, Newcastle will be hoping their "big club", promotion ambitions and prestigious manager will help sway McCormack to St. James' Park.

Mick Quinn has already urged Newcastle to complete a deal for McCormack and with the Fulham striker's Scotland team failing to qualify for the European Championships in France this summer, he will be available to discuss a move throughout the transfer window.

Newcastle will be keen to add another striker to their ranks in a bid to gain instant promotion back to the Premier League after a disappointing campaign ended in relegation last season.

Here are TWO PROS and TWO CONS that Newcastle should evaluate before signing Ross McCormack...

PRO 1: Ross McCormack is a proven goalscorer in the Championship

McCormack is a proven and consistent goalscorer in England's second tier.

His tally of 21 goals this summer just raised his stock following previous hauls of 17 goals in his debut season for Fulham and 28 goals the season before for Leeds United.

There is no doubt that with the service provided to him at Newcastle, he would break the 20-goal barrier again and these goals could be crucial to Newcastle's promotion efforts.

CON 1: He won't be leaving on the cheap

In February Ross McCormack extended his contract by one year, committing himself to Fulham until 2020. This means that he will not be joining anyone on the cheap.

His switch from Leeds United to Fulham two years ago cost the London club £11m and I doubt they'll be willing to let him leave for much less than that figure.

If anything, his reputation has been enhanced at Craven Cottage and he might be more expensive. With their other striker, Moussa Dembele, destined for the exit door, Fulham will be in no rush to accept any bids under their valuation.

PRO 2: More level-headed and reliable than Mitrovic?

There is no doubting that Aleksandr Mitrovic is a talented forward. But his fiery nature can sometimes come to the fore and he has a tendency to lose his cool.

Two red cards in his debut season in England and a number of scuffles have cast doubts over whether he has the mindset to be successful at this level. Alternatively, what McCormack offers is experience as captain of Leeds United and occasional captain of Fulham (as deputy for Scott Parker).

This sort of role model might be a preferable option to the Serbian hothead if Benitez is looking for a reliable character to lead the line.

CON 2: Where does this leave Newcastle's other strikers?

Newcastle already have players who can score at Championship level. Aleksandr Mitrovic, if he can apply himself properly, is more than capable of bagging upwards of 20 goals in England's second tier. Ayoze Perez and Pappiss Cisse, if they stay, should also be able to contribute with numerous goals.

Adam Armstrong returns to St. James' Park after an incredible season on loan at Coventry City and it would be nice to see him given a proper chance, where I imagine his pace would cause Championship defences all sorts of trouble along with his keen eye for goal.

Ivan Toney will also return from a successful stint at Barnsley and could add another dimension to the Newcastle attack. Do the Magpies really need Ross McCormack as well?

Newcastle fans - what do you think? Would Ross McCormack be a good signing for you? Where does this leave your other strikers? Does McCormack represent value for money?
