With news emerging today that Newcastle are set to sign Hull City man Mohamed Diame, it has once again drawn the attention onto the North East and Newcastle United and their summer transfer moves.

The Magpies have made some serious waves in the market this summer, with Diame set to become the latest name added to a list already containing Dwight Gayle, Matt Ritchie, and Jesus Gamez.

Under manager Rafa Benitez they are expected to take the Championship by storm, and in all honesty, anything now other than the league title can be deemed as a failure.

With Diame set to sign, it strengthens their position given they have recently sold Gino Wijnaldum, and are expected to see Moussa Sissoko exit soon enough.

Here, FLW writer looks at TWO pros and TWO cons to Newcastle United signing Mo Diame...

Pro 1 - Match winner

Diame showed on the biggest stage at Wembley he is capable of the spectacular and winning a game out of nowhere, and he will bring that with him to St James Park.

His goal against Sheffield Wednesday in the playoff final was something special, but it is not the first time he has done that and it won't be the last should he move to Newcastle.

Diame will be an excellent capture. Recently departed Hull City manger Steve Bruce feared losing Diame the most having won promotion, and it appears that is now going to be the case.

Con 1 - Not as good as Wijnaldum?

While Diame will probably play central and roam forward, the question will linger over him about whether he is of the same quality as the outgoing Gino Wijnaldum.

Sure Diame will bring his own qualities, but can he supply the goals they will be missing from selling the Dutch midfielder?

Time will tell, but at the price they are set to pay for Diame, he should work out to be an excellent signing barring an absolute catastrophe or the pressure getting to him.

Pro 2 - Championship experience

If there is one thing that might be missing through the squad, it is Championship experience.

Diame will bring that with him, as well as winning mentality following his promotion with the Tigers last season.

With Matt Ritchie also in that mould, it bodes well for the Magpies midfield that they have a few players who know all about just how tough the English second tier can be.

Con 2 - Another high earner?

Let's be honest, Diame won't be sacrificing Premier League football for pennies. He will no doubt be signing an improved contract than that what he is on at Hull, and this could represent a problem should the Magpies not win promotion.

Depending on the length of contract - and Newcastle have a habit of handing out 5-year deals - it might spell disaster should they not acheive their objective.

If Diame can help guide them to promotion, it will be a deal well worth it. If not, then it might well be another big money name stuck on a long contract under Mike Ashley's ownership.

Newcastle fans, what do you think to this? Do you agree? Will Diame be a good signing? Let us know!
