Middlesbrough are said to be interesting in signing Sheffield Wednesday full-back Morgan Fox according to Football Insider.

The defender is out of contract at the end of this year's campaign, and with no new deal on the horizon, a move to the Riverside could be on the cards.

Jonathan Woodgate's side are said to be interested in signing Fox after his impressive performances this season for the Owls, who have struggled since the turn of the New Year.

Sheffield Wednesday have only won once in their last ten matches, which has seen them fall from the play-off positions to 15th in the second tier standings.

Fox has been a rare bright spark for Garry Monk's side though, and has made 31 appearances in total for the Owls with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

We look at TWO pros and TWO cons to Middlesbrough potentially signing Fox in the summer.

Pro: He'd be available on a free.

Fox is out of contract at the end of the 2019/20 season, which is likely to mean that he's attracting significant interest heading into the summer.

But if Middlesbrough were able to strike an agreement with the defender, then it'd be somewhat of a coup, as he's a player with proven experience in the Championship, and being available for a minimal fee.

Con: Boro will face competition for his signature.

It's previously been reported by TEAMtalk that the likes of West Brom, Nottingham Forest and Derby County all being interested in landing his signature.

Therefore, if he is to become a free agent in the summer, then Middlesbrough would have a real battle on their hands to sign him ahead of other promotion-chasing sides in the Championship.

However, they would be able to offer him regular game time, which could tempt him with a move to Boro.

Pro: He's a player that is in good form.

Fox has three goals and one assist to his name from left-back this season, and has been one of the few Sheffield Wednesday players to show consistency in their performances this term under the guidance of Garry Monk.

Therefore, you would imagine that he'd be able to settle into life with Jonathan Woodgate's side relatively easy. This would be a real bonus for Boro, who can't afford for any new arrivals to come into the side and struggle to perform to their potential.

Con: Do Middlesbrough need another full-back?

Boro already have a number of options available to them at left-back, so you have to consider whether their money on wages would be better spent on another player in a different position.

The likes of George Friend and Hayden Coulson (pictured above) have played in that position this season, and Fox wouldn't be guaranteed regular minutes with Jonathan Woodgate's side in the future.

This could mean that he's destined for a move elsewhere in the summer.
