Manchester United have reportedly registered their interest in signing Swansea City defender Joe Rodon according to The Sun.

The Welshman has caught the eye with a number of impressive performances this season for the Swans, as they look to force themselves into the play-off places in the Championship.

Rodon has made 21 appearances in total for Swansea this season, and has played his part in their promotion bid so far under the guidance of Steve Cooper.

The Swans are currently sat 11th in the second tier standings, and are just three points adrift of the play-off places with nine games remaining in this year's campaign.

It is also reported that Manchester City are interested in landing Rodon's signature, but it is thought that Manchester United are leading the race to sign him.

We look at TWO pros and TWO cons to Manchester United sealing a deal for Rodon ahead of the summer transfer window.

Pro: He's a player with age on his side.

Rodon is still only 22, and has clearly got a bright future ahead of him.

He's shown that he can cut it in the Championship though, and is already a Welsh senior international, which will certainly mean that Manchester United will have to meet Swansea's hefty valuation of him.

If he signed for the Red Devils, then he could go on to feature regularly for the club in the future.

Con: He doesn't have any experience in the Premier League.

Rodon might have been impressive in the Championship this season, but he doesn't have any experience of playing in the Premier League, which will be a concern.

Manchester United are a big club, and they can't allow for a lengthy amount of time for a defender to adjust to the demands of football in the top-flight.

There are safer, and more experienced options out there for the Red Devils, that's for sure.

Pro: They're in a good position to sign him.

As reported by The Sun, Manchester United are in pole position to sign Rodon.

The report also claims that rivals Manchester City are also interested in striking a deal with the Swans to sign him. If they can continue to keep a firm interest in Rodon heading towards the summer, then you would imagine that they'll remain the favourites to reach an agreement with Swansea for his services

Con: The cost of any potential deal.

As previously mentioned, Rodon is a Welsh international, which is going to increase the cost of any potential deal.

Rodon is a key player for the Swans, and they're not likely to be wanting the defender to depart for any cut-price deal heading into the summer.

He is the sort of player that the Swans will be keen to build their team around for future seasons, so Manchester United will have to stump up a large amount of money to land his signature.
