There's reports surfacing today that Leeds United are one of a couple of teams looking at former England international Jermain Defoe.

Defoe has been a superb professional throughout his career, scoring goals wherever he went until recently. He's currently with Premier League side Bournemouth, a club he spent time on loan with whilst a youth, but his best days are now surely behind him.

He's made eight appearances for them this season, adding to his 26 last time out, but has scored just four goals in their colours. His career has spanned seven different clubs, with two spells at Spurs and two at Dean Court, as well as West Ham, Charlton, Portsmouth, Sunderland and Toronto.

It looks likely this window will see him join his eighth side, but is Elland Road a good destination? We look at the pros and cons of such a transfer.

Defoe has experience beyond most players currently in the game and that could be invaluable to the exciting Under 23 players at Leeds.

What he can offer off the pitch is vital, perhaps even more so than his impact on it. Tyler walker, Sam Dalby and the other young kids will have grown up watching Defoe in his prime.

He's 36-years old now and for a player whose game was all about pace and getting into the right positions, he has to be beyond his best.

Is there's truly a place for him at Leeds? He won't replace Roofe and whether he'd have the legs to play that lone striker role is up for debate.

He is a natural goal scorer and maybe there's value in throwing him on for the last ten minutes of a game.

He's finishes with unnerving accuracy and whilst Premier League football might be beyond him, there's a chance Championship football is not.

He won't come cheap, his transfer moves have totalled £40m and he'll surely want a decent wage too, especially as it could be his last big payday.

Is that wise investment of Leeds funds? Or should they be looking for players with a longer term impact?
