Times at Elland Road haven't been very good at all in recent years.

Once a phenomenon of English football, the Whites have fallen from grace dramatically, and have faced gruelling times in the second tier for many years now.

Matters have been made worse by the demise of the board and owner Massimo Cellino’s will to sack a manager within months of giving them the role,

And just when the Elland Road faithful thought matters couldn’t get any worse, they have recently sold arguably the hottest young prospect in the whole of the Football League, the Young Player of the Year Lewis Cook, who recently departed to Eddie Howe’s AFC Bournemouth on a four-year-deal.

However, after the appointment of Garry Monk, things are looking to be on the ascent at Elland Road, with the additions of Kemar Roofe, Marcus Antonsson, and Robert Green to name a few.

And another man on Monk's radar is Sunderland's Liam Bridcutt, as an obvious replacement for Cook.

Here, Football League World writer George Harbey identifies TWO pros and TWO cons for the holding midfielder signing on at Leeds United....

PRO 1 - Adds depth to midfield

If Bridcutt were to join the Whites, he would be massively improving the depth in midfield.

After the departure of Cook, Toumani Diagouraga and Luke Murphy stand as the only remaining holding midfielders at the club.

This needs to be quickly resolved by Monk, if he is to have a solid core in the team, and Bridcutt would be a perfect candidate to fulfil the hole left by Cook.

Bridcutt is no stranger to Elland Road, having spent the latter stages of last campaign with the Whites, making an impressive 24 appearances.

PRO 2 - Championship experience

Having spent 5 years with Brighton and Hove Albion, of which the Seagulls pushed for promotion on numerous occasions, Bridcutt could be a tremendous acquisition for Monk's men as they look to romp to promotion.

Making 132 appearances for Brighton, Bridcutt is no stranger to the harsh Championship environment.

His experience is something that has been lacking for the Whites in the last few years, with too many inexperienced players starting week in week out leading to laclustre performances.

CON 1 - Value for money

bridcutt

An article last campaign saw Bridcutt becoming one of the highest earners at Leeds, behind striker Chris Wood, reportedly earning £11,500 a week at Elland Road despite being on loan.

And you'd have to think, at 27 years old, is Bridcutt really worth the money when there is many more younger, promising midfielders in the market, the likes of Jeff Hendrick and Henri Lansbury to name a few.

CON 2 - Lack of consistently good performances

Bridcutt failed to make the impact he would have liked to in his brief spell at Elland Road last term.

The midfielder never seemed to cut it in the Premier League at Sunderland, and found himself plying his trade at the Whites last term.

And having made just 54 appearances in the last 3 seasons altogether, this may come back to haunt Monk in the long term, as other players suited to playing week in week out may be more adequate to play in the middle of park, and improve stability in the core of the Leeds squad.

So...What do you think Leeds fans? Would Bridcutt be a good signing for Leeds? Is he good enough to replace Lewis Cook? Leave your opinions in the comments below!
