Marcelo Bielsa remains Leeds United’s first choice as they look for a new head-coach to take them into the 2018/19 campaign.

Leeds opted to sack Paul Heckingbottom a week ago, with Bielsa quickly emerging as a target.

The Sky Bet Championship club are locked in negotiations with Bielsa, as they look to make an appointment before the players return for pre-season later this month.

Bielsa has a wealth of experience having managed some big clubs across Europe, as well as taking charge of Argentina and Chile.

There is plenty of excitement around Elland Road about Bielsa’s potential arrival, although it is far from certain he will be arriving at Elland Road, with still a lot to discuss and finalise.

However, here at FLW, we have taken a look at the possibility of Bielsa taking charge at Leeds, identifying TWO pros and TWO cons to him arriving in the Championship…

Rafa Benitez is perhaps the biggest name to manage in the Championship in modern football, but Bielsa arriving would run him close.

The 62-year-old has so much experience and is well respected within the game.

Leeds getting a coach of his calibre in would be a huge statement of intent ahead of a big year.

The Championship is like no other division, which Bielsa would find out if he arrived.

So many have failed to lead Leeds back to the Premier League, with the Championship extremely unforgiving.

Should Bielsa arrive, there would be an element of risk.

Bielsa’s philosophy is built on a three-man defence and attacking football, two things Leeds’ supporters would love to see.

For too long now, 4-2-3-1 has been Leeds’ formation of choice, with very little success.

Bielsa would bring fresh ideas and a new system that could transform Leeds’ fortunes.

Bielsa has received some high praise during his career, but he is known for his unpredictability.

The 62-year-old is demanding and should he arrive at Elland Road, fireworks can be expected.

Leeds can't afford anymore controversy on their doorstep.
