According to the Examiner, Huddersfield striker Steve Mounie is a known target for Turkish club Besiktas.

If Mounie is going to leave the John Smith's Stadium this summer, it will reportedly be through a loan deal.

The striker, who joined the Yorkshire side for a figure close to £12m in 2017, scored 9 goals in 59 appearances for the Terriers in the Premier League.

With only 20 minutes played this season, he looks set to leave after the sacking of Jan Siewert and the signing of Fraizer Campbell on a free transfer.

As ever with a potential transfer, the pros and cons of it need to be assessed...

Pro - Surplus striker

From the out looking in, Mounie is a surplus member of the team so there is no harm in letting the player go. His record in the Premier League was undeniably poor and it will be a good opportunity to reduce the wages in the short-term.

His departure will also allow Campbell to receive more game time and to potentially build-up his 12 goals he scored last year. In addition, Mounie could cause unneeded dressing room stress for the players and new manager if he was not getting the playing time he wanted.

All-in-all, allowing a surplus striker to leave has a lot of benefits to it.

Pro - Increase value before contract expires

One of those additional benefits is that by agreeing a loan-deal, there is the potential for Huddersfield to make some money back on the player. Mounie's estimated £12m value would have plummeted from his two poor seasons in the Premier League.

With his contract set to expire in 2021, this is Huddersfield chance to possibly redeem some of that money. If he has an exceptional season at Besiktas, or somewhere else, his value will increase heavily from what it would have been. It's a smart decision on the financial end too.

Con - Unable to sign a quality replacement

Even though there are positives to move Mounie on, a down-side to this transfer would be their inability to sign a quality replacement. It's likely Fraizer Campbell is Mounie's replacement, but he is unlikely to make a huge impact which Huddersfield desperately needs.

Last season was the first time Campbell broke the double figures barrier in the league, and it is even more unlikely he will propel himself to new heights at the age of 31.

With this in mind, it could be a good idea to keep Mounie to see how he performs in the Championship. A break in form and Huddersfield season will be transformed.

Con - Possible new manager impact

This hypothetical break in form would come from the new manager. It was clear Mounie was not in Siewart's plans, but he could in the next manager's.

The new manager may find the right system, breathe new confidence into the 24-year-old, or build a relationship with him so that he finds his goal-scoring form he showed at Montpellier in 2016/17. The possibilities of what could happen are endless.

With a woeful start, Huddersfield need to gamble on something happening. The reintroduction and rejuvenation of Steve Mounie under a fresh manager could be it.
