Mark Hudson will take charge of his first game of his second spell in caretaker charge of Huddersfield Town on Wednesday, after the club sacked Jan Siewert last week.

Siewert was sacked after the 2-1 defeat to Fulham on Friday night, leaving him with a record of just one win from his 19 matches in charge of the Terriers.

The German took charge of Huddersfield in January this year - replacing David Wagner - but he was unable to save them from relegation from the Premier League.

First-team coach Hudson, 37, will take charge of the team while Huddersfield search for a successor, but is one of the favourites to take the job on a permanent basis.

The former Huddersfield captain has admitted that he does want to become a manager at some point in his career and that he definitely wants to manage the Terriers.

Here are two pros and two cons to Huddersfield appointing Hudson as their new manager...

Pro: He is a good coach and knows the club well

Hudson has been a first-team coach at Huddersfield for over two years. He already knows the club very well and will not take any time to adapt to the club.

The former Huddersfield captain was a real leader on the pitch and should be able to galvanise the squad and get the players behind him.

He already knows the players very well and should know how to get the best out of them.

He doesn't have any experience as a manager, but he could turn out to be a good short-term appointment, while the club search for a long-term replacement for Siewert.

Pro: It is an appointment the fans can get behind

Hudson was an important player for Huddersfield and his committed performances on the pitch saw him become a fans' favourite at the John Smith's Stadium.

Therefore this should be an appointment that the Huddersfield fans can get behind, which is exactly what the club need after their disappointing start to the season.

He was a leader on the pitch and a big character in the dressing room, so the players should be able to get behind this appointment too.

Con: He lacks experience as a manager

Hudson is a good coach, but he has no experience as a manager - apart from his previous spell in caretaker charge. Therefore, his appointment on a permanent basis would have to be considered a risk for the Terriers.

Huddersfield will be hoping to challenge for promotion from the Championship this season, so it's very important that the team are able to pick up some points quickly.

They've got some difficult fixtures coming up against some tough opponents and they've got a much better chance of winning those games with an experienced manager in charge.

Con: There are better options out there

Hudson is a good coach with good leadership qualities and he no doubt has what it takes to become a manager one day, but Huddersfield need someone with experience.

If they appoint Hudson, you could argue that it shows a lack of ambition when there are more proven managers currently available such as Chris Hughton.

Ideally the club need someone who already has experience in winning promotion and somebody like Hughton would be perfect.

Hudson could be a good short-term appointment, but his lack of experience makes him a risk for the Terriers.
