2 pros and 2 cons to Garry Monk joining Leeds United – Agreed?

The news that Leeds United have appointed Garry Monk as their new head coach sparked a certain amount of surprise in the football world.

It was well-documented that Monk was eager to get back into a managerial role for the start of next season. He had previously been sacked by Premier League side Swansea City in December 2015 after a string of poor results that saw them flirting dangerously with the relegation zone.

Unlike the Swans, Leeds are a club that will offer a very contrasting prospect for the 37-year-old. The erratic nature of Massimo Cellino will be a very different scenario than the one he found himself in under Huw Jenkins at Swansea.

The Italian has appointed as many as 6 head coaches since his arrival to the Yorkshire club in 2014. More recently, Steve Evans had guided Leeds to a 13th place finish in the Sky Bet Championship. But Cellino was seemingly not impressed with the mid-table finish as he failed to renew Evans’ contract – meaning he left the club after just 8 months in charge.

The question is, will Cellino hold his temper when results don’t go perfectly? The sackings have shown his intention on making Leeds United a Premier League club again and there is evidence to suggest that Garry Monk could bring some positivity back to the club.

At the same time, the marquee signing of Monk could prove to bring disadvantages to the club.
