Charlton Athletic have completed their 13th signing of the summer transfer window, after confirming the arrival of midfielder Erhun Oztumer at the club.

Oztumer, who was a free agent following his departure from crisis-hit Bolton Wanderers earlier this week, was previously part of the Addicks academy, and has now signed a two-year deal at The Valley.

The midfielder only joined Bolton from Walsall last summer, and made a total of 19 appearances in all competitions for Phil Parkinson's side.

So is the signing of Oztumer a good one for Charlton to make?

Here, we look at two pros and two cons to the deal.

He has the ability to make things happen

At just 5ft 3in tall, Oztumer is far from what you would call a physically imposing player.

That however, is far from a bad thing. What he lacks in stature, the midfielder certainly seems to make up for in ability.

Oztumer is a quick, tricky player who is far from easy for defenders to cope with, and his ability to pick a pass means that there should be ample opportunities for Charlton's attacking options to finish off this season.

With a clinical finisher such as Lyle Taylor leading the line and a fresh supply line in Oztumer to provide the chances, this could be a concern for a number of defences across the division this season.

Reduced financial risk

Another benefit of this deal to the Addicks is that it hasn't actually cost them anything in terms of transfer funds.

With Oztumer having asked to end his contract at Bolton amid the ongoing crisis at the club, the midfielder was available as a free agent, and the Addicks have not had to pay a fee to Wanderers for the services of the 28-year-old.

As a result, if this turns out to be a deal that doesn't work for either party, Charlton have at least not lost out financially because of that.

Has he really proved himself in the Championship?

While Oztumer has shown plenty of promise, you do feel there are still questions to be answered about his capabilities at this level.

The midfielder made just 17 league appearances in what was his first season in the Championship during his year with Bolton, and it should be remembered that amidst the off the field issues going on around the club, it was a pretty poor season on it as well, with the club suffering a dismal relegation back to League One.

With Charlton themselves among the favourites for a quick return to the third tier this season, you do have to wonder slightly how much they will be able to rely on Oztumer to help keep them out of trouble this year.

It could take time to get him up and running after last season

While Oztumer may be relieved to have got his move away from Bolton, there could still be lingering issues from his time at the club to deal with.

Wi the midfielder only playing 70 minutes so far this season, and pre-season training having been impacted by the ongoing uncertainty around the club, you do wonder quite how match fit Oztumer actually is right now.

Add to that the fact that Bolton will have been a far from positive club to be at recently, you also wonder whether Oztumer will need some time to rediscover that winning mentality that Charlton are likely to need if they are to stay in this division this season.
