Cardiff City have signed 25 year old striker Isaac Vassell for an undisclosed fee from Championship rivals Birmingham City.

Although Vassell had received interest from Swansea City and newly-promoted side Luton Town, he decided to sign for Neil Warnock's side who will be looking to bounce straight back to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Bluebirds have also made two other key signings in this transfer window, including centre back Aden Flint and former Bristol City central midfielder Marlon Pack.

After being relegated from the Premier League by just a couple of points last season, Cardiff City will be be hoping that these key signings, as well as the other new arrivals, settle in quickly at the Cardiff City Stadium.

At the very least, Cardiff will be desperate to get into a playoff place so they have at least get the chance to have another shot of promotion. Anything less will be seen as disappointing, this will be a very big season for Neil Warnock and his squad.

Here are two pros and two cons to Cardiff City making the purchase Birmingham's Isaac Vassell on transfer deadline day.

Pro: Point to prove at another club

Even though the two sides are in the same division, the two clubs are currently miles apart in ability. Birmingham City have been a lower mid-table side for a few seasons now, whilst Cardiff City were relegated from the Premier League last season.

Even when Cardiff were relegated, they were only a couple of points adrift of Brighton and Hove Albion. This is a club where Vassell could really make a name for himself as he looks to push for promotion with his new club in this campaign.

Vassell having a point to prove can only be a positive for Neil Warnock, who will need passionate players in Cardiff's first season back in the second tier of English football. He has the ability to do very well in Wales.

Pro: Good replacement for Bobby Reid to add depth

With the departures of Kenneth Zahore to West Brom and Bobby Reid to Fulham on loan, Cardiff desperately needed attacking reinforcements for their Championship campaign.

In Isaac Vassell, they have a player who can fit the Bobby Reid mould in attack. It was so important that they signed Vassell to give Cardiff different options in attack. Warnock's attack may have gone stale eventually otherwise.

Although Vassell is a promising new signing for Cardiff, he will have to compete with players like Robert Glatzel and Gary Madine for a spot in the starting lineup. This healthy competition will give the attacking players the motivation to retain their high-performance levels.

Con: Can he play up front on his own?

At just 1.7m tall, it's unlikely that Neil Warnock will play Vassell up front on his own. When Cardiff do decide to play just one up top, it's unlikely that Vassell will be including in the starting eleven in his natural position, which may be frustrating for the striker.

Vassell won't have come to Cardiff City to sit on the bench, but that's what he may have to do if Neil Warnock changes his system which may not accommodate the 25-year-old in the starting lineup.

The advantage of having a tall striker up front is the option for the ball to be played direct when the team is under pressure in their own box, Vassell isn't the man who could easily win headers up top.

Con: No real goalscoring prowess

Throughout his career, he's never set any league alight with his goals even when he was playing in League Two a couple of years ago with Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town, the latter now being in the second tier.

The most he's scored in one season was in the 2016/17 season for Luton in League Two with just eight goals to his name. It's clear to see that he hasn't been scoring in the Championship either, netting just once in two seasons for Birmingham City.

He hasn't even made up for it by providing assists to his teammates during his career. It's clear that he'll need to raise his game if Vassell is to make the grade at recently relegated Cardiff City.
