This week, the inevitable departure of Paul Trollope from his managerial role at Cardiff City was confirmed due to club’s poor start to the season.

Trollope was appointed the manager of Cardiff City on the 18th May after leaving his role with Wales.

However, the 2-0 loss to Burton Albion was the final straw for the manager and his contract was terminated with immediate effect.

The Bluebirds are second from bottom after only 2 wins in 11 games of the current season, and Warnock faces a tough task of keeping the Welsh club afloat.

Warnock pretty much ensured Rotherham United their Championship status last season, and many of the fans will want to see the experienced boss deliver the same.

Football League World Writer, Ashley Williams identifies 2 PROS and 2 CONs to Cardiff City appointing Neil Warnock...

PRO – Experience of pulling sides out of trouble

neil warnockmmm

Warnock has been in football management for 36 years and he's seen it all.

In that time, the Yorkshireman has built a reputation as a hard taskmaster and disciplinarian, but he is also an excellent motivator.

Warnock took charge of 16 matches at Rotherham, taking them on an 11-game unbeaten streak that moved them out of the relegation zone. If he takes over at Cardiff, he might have another relegation scrap to get stuck into.

PRO – Championship record

warnockkk

His Championship record is one of the best and he certainly knows the league inside-out.

His battling nature makes him a great coach for the tough-nature of the Championship.

Warnock has achieved promotion from the second tier of English football with Sheffield United and QPR and also won promotion while in charge of Scarborough, Notts County, Huddersfield Town and Plymouth Argyle in the lower leagues.

Keeping Rotherham up last season is also arguably one of his greatest achievements.

CON – Big ego

At a time of low morale in the squad, Warnock is known to have an aggressive mind-set and a ‘man up’ attitude.

Warnock has had a long list of rubbing people up the wrong way and he will need to motivate the players, but in the right manner.

Screaming at the players could cause a rift among the squad that could sink them into further trouble.

CON – Relationship with Vincent Tan

All eyes would turn to his relationship with Vincent Tan.

Both are very determined characters with big personalities but Warnock could certainly succeed with the Bluebirds.

He would probably demand control over transfers and will have very clear ideas about the direction he wants to take the team.

The Malaysian owner has been fairly quiet over the past few years, since the days of asking to pick the side and questioning why David Marshall is not scoring enough goals.
