Having guided his Brentford side to an 11th place finish in the Championship last month, Thomas Frank will undoubtedly be looking to go one step better next season by launching a sustained push for the play-offs.

With the Danish manager already adding Christian Norgaard and Japhet Sery Larsen to his current roster of his players at Griffin Park, he may now be about to swoop for Southampton ace Sam Gallagher.

According to The Sun journalist Alan Nixon, the Bees are reportedly interested in bringing in the forward on a permanent deal with Blackburn Rovers also keeping tabs on the 23-year-old.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that Frank considers both the positives and the negatives that Gallagher could have on Brentford's fortunes during the upcoming campaign before committing to a switch.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to the Bees signing the Saints striker based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He has thrived at Championship level before

Although he failed to make an impact for Southampton in the Premier League last season, Gallagher's previous escapades in the Championship suggest that he could turn out to be a fantastic addition to Brentford's squad if they can secure his services this summer.

Whilst on loan at Blackburn during the 2016/17 campaign, the forward managed to fire in 11 goals whilst also providing three assists as his physical presence proved to be a real problem for opposition defenders.

If he can at least replicate, or even exceed this kind of form for the Bees next season, there is no reason why he cannot help them reach new heights in the second-tier.

He could end up realising his full potential under Frank

Whereas staying at Southampton may risk hindering his development as a player due to the lack of first-team opportunities on offer, a move to Brentford could see Gallagher thrive under the guidance of Frank.

Having already played a major role in nurturing the talents of Ollie Watkins and Neal Maupay since his arrival at the club as an assistant head coach in 2016, the 45-year-old will be confident that he can help the aforementioned forward to realise his full potential over the coming years.

Cons

The club already have better options to choose from in his position

Whereas there is no doubting that Gallagher is an extremely talented player, if he does join Brentford, there are no guarantees that he will be a regular starter for the club.

With Maupay excelling in the striker role and Watkins also being used occasionally in this position, it could be argued that the Bees already have better options to choose from at Griffin Park compared to the 23-year-old.

Therefore, providing this duo stay at the club during the transfer window, it may be worth Frank turning his attention to strengthening other positions instead of wasting his time pursuing Gallagher.

He may struggle to adapt to Frank's style of play

Considering the fact that Gallagher has represented England at under-20 level and has already featured on several occasions in the Premier League, Brentford may be forced to pay a premium price to lure him away from the Saints.

If this is the case, Frank should think twice about making a move for the former Milton Keynes Dons loanee as he could end up struggling to adapt to the Bees' style of play and thus fail to live up to expectations in the second-tier next season.
