Having navigated his Blackburn Rovers side to a 15th place finish in the Championship last month, Tony Mowbray will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his squad this summer ahead of the 2019/20 campaign.

Although he already has a number of quality operators at his disposal at Ewood Park, it is not at all surprising that the 55-year-old has been linked with a move for one of Australia's most exciting talents.

According to the Daily Mail, Rovers are reportedly lining up a £350,000 move for Sydney FC midfielder Brandon O'Neill after being impressed by his performances in the A-League last season.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that Mowbray considers both the positives and the negatives that the 25-year-old could have on his side's fortunes over the coming years before committing to a switch.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to Blackburn signing O'Neill based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He has been a revelation since joining Sydney FC in 2015

Having experienced a tough start to life as a professional footballer with Perth Glory, O'Neill has managed to take his career to new heights since joining Sydney FC in 2015.

Now arguably the Sky Blues' most influential player, the midfielder has helped orchestrate two Grand Final victories in three years with his latest success coming against his former side in May.

If O'Neill can replicate the form that he has demonstrated in Australia for Blackburn next season, he will undoubtedly be a great addition to their squad.

He may end up thriving under Mowbray's guidance

Whereas there is no doubting that O'Neill has benefited massively from working under the likes of Steve Corica and Graham Arnold in recent years, it could be argued that Rovers boss Mowbray could be the perfect man to help him realise his full potential.

Having played a huge role in nurturing the talents of Bradley Dack and Lewis Travis last season, the former Coventry City boss will be confident of achieving the same feat with the Australian international.

Cons

He may not be suited for the Championship

Although the A-League has improved year-on-year in terms of quality since its inception in 2004, O'Neill will still have to make a considerable adjustment to his playing style in order to have the best chance of thriving in the Championship.

Famed for its relentless pace, the second-tier can be extremely unforgiving for newcomers and so it would come as no shock if the midfielder ends up struggling to make an impact in English football for Blackburn.

Blackburn arguably have better options than him in his position already

With the likes of Richard Smallwood, Lewis Travis and Jack Rodwell already fighting it out for the defensive midfield role at Ewood Park, there is no guarantee that O'Neill will be able to displace this trio next season.

Therefore, it may be more beneficial for Blackburn to switch their focus from signing the Sydney FC ace to bringing in players who have proven track-records of producing the goods at Championship level.
