With the new Championship campaign scheduled to kick-off in 25 days' time, Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray will unquestionably be looking to add some real quality to his squad over the coming weeks.

Having already signed Stewart Downing and Bradley Johnson this summer, the 55-year-old could be about to swoop for one of the Riversiders' former players.

According to Sun journalist Alan Nixon, Blackburn are reportedly interested in bringing in Scott Dann from Premier League side Crystal Palace with a loan switch for Norwich City defender Grant Hanley now looking extremely unlikely to happen.

If this is indeed true, it is imperative that Mowbray considers both the positives and the negatives that bringing in the 32-year-old could have on the club's fortunes next season before committing to a move.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to Rovers sealing a deal for Dann based on his career to date.

Check them out below...

Pros

He has impressed at Championship level before for Blackburn

Before leaving the club in 2014, Dann was a regular starter for Blackburn with the nature of his performances in the Championship eventually catching the eye of then-Palace boss Tony Pulis.

Given that he is more than competent at this particular level of football, the defender will be confident that he can help Blackburn challenge for a top-half finish next season if he joins.

He would bring a wealth of experience with him to Ewood Park

With over 400 appearances to his name, Dann has experienced just about everything that football has to offer during his career and thus could prove to be a fantastic addition to Blackburn's current roster of players.

By using his knowledge of what it takes to thrive in the Championship to his advantage, the former Coventry City ace could help his team-mates get better over the coming 10 months which will do no harm to Rovers' chances of thriving under Mowbray.

Cons

There are no guarantees that he will be a regular starter

Although Dann excelled during his previous spell with Blackburn, there are no guarantees that he will be a regular starter for the club who currently have the likes of Charlie Mulgrew and Darragh Lenihan at their disposal.

Whereas he could benefit from this intense competition for places, the defender may also end up being forced to watch on from the sidelines if he cannot hit the ground running during the upcoming campaign.

Signing him could be a poor long-term investment to make

Despite being available for a cut-price fee this summer having entered the final year of his existing contract at Selhurst Park, signing Dann could be a poor long-term investment for Blackburn to make.

Currently on a reported £60,000-per-week salary (via Spotrac), the defender would take up a huge chunk of Rovers' wage bill which they could be using instead to bring in younger players who have the potential to develop into quality operators in the future.

Furthermore, given that Dann missed 19 games last season due to a serious knee injury, there is a chance that he could easily break down once again which is the last thing that Mowbray would want to see happen.
