After sacking Garry Monk earlier this week, Birmingham City have now revealed a new management plan which will see Pep Clotet assume the role of caretaker head coach at St Andrew's.

Working alongside the Spaniard will be James Beattie (First-Team Coach), Darryl Flahavan (Goalkeeper Coach), Sean Rush (Head of Physical Performance), Ryan Needs (Head of Analysis) and Gary Gardner who will now be a player-coach for the Blues.

Speaking to the club's official website about the decision to hand-out these new roles, CEO Xuandong Ren admitted: "We had a very positive talk with the guys and we are focused on what we want to try and achieve.

"Their professionalism shone through during our meeting and we know they are a very talented and hard-working group.

"Pep will be our caretaker Head Coach and we are not seeking anyone else.

"With the support we will continue to provide them, and their expertise in coaching and preparation of the players, we are confident that we can make significant progress towards what we all want to achieve - success for Birmingham City."

Having confirmed that Clotet will take charge of first-team matters for the foreseeable future, it will be intriguing to see just how the upcoming season pans out for the Blues.

Keeping this in mind, we have set out two pros as well as two cons to Birmingham's new approach.

Check them out below...

Pros

The club's players now know what to expect when they return to training

Given just how much uncertainty there has been at Birmingham since Monk's sacking on Tuesday, the confirmation of this new management plan will have alleviated some of the players' fears for the upcoming campaign.

With pre-season training set to start on Friday, the squad will now have the best part of six weeks to prepare for their clash with Brentford on August 3rd.

Clotet's appointment could provide an element of continuity at St Andrew's

Having worked with Monk at Leeds United, Swansea City and Birmingham, Clotet would have learnt a great deal from the 40-year-old and therefore it wouldn't be that much of a shock if he decides to keep the club's game-plan the same next season.

By committing to this continuity, the Spaniard could end up being very successful at St Andrew's as but for a points deduction from the Football League in March, the Blues were on course to gatecrash the play-off positions during the 2018/19 campaign.

Cons

Che Adams may now decide to leave this summer

A vital cog in Birmingham's attack, Che Adams fired in 22 goals last season for his side and therefore it goes without saying that losing him this summer would be disastrous for the West Midlands-based club.

With Southampton, Burnley and Crystal Palace being linked with a move for the forward, as per the Sun, the Blues may end up being powerless to prevent his departure.

Considering that Clotet's appointment is not exactly a move which will aspire Adams, it would not be at all surprising if he decides that now is the right time to go.

Birmingham could very well be facing the prospect of relegation next May

Whereas Clotet will be confident that he will be able to keep the club afloat in the Championship next season, if he ends up losing his key players during the transfer window and is then unable to replace them sufficiently, he may struggle to achieve this goal.

Having last played in the third tier of English football in 1992, a return to this level will be devastating for everyone associated with the club yet it may just happen under this current management team.
