Barnsley will be keen to find their new manager in the near future, after they confirmed that they had parted company with Daniel Stendel over the international break.

Stendel guided the Tykes back into the Championship in his first season in charge at Oakwell, but struggled to adapt to life in the Championship.

Barnsley are without a win in their last eleven games in all competitions, and haven't won a league game since the opening day of the season against Fulham.

That poor run of form means that the Yorkshire-based side are currently occupy one of the relegation spots in the second tier, and they'll be hoping that a new manager can turn their fortunes around.

It has recently been reported by the Barnsley Chronicle that the Tykes are targeting Steven Cherundolo as Stendel's successor, although it remains to be seen as to whether formal negotiations have taken place as of yet.

We look at TWO pros and TWO cons to Barnsley potentially appointing Cherundolo as their new manager.

Pro: Barnsley need someone in charge ASAP

Barnsley are a club that are really struggling at this moment in time, and they need some stability at the earliest of opportunities.

The Tykes are currently occupying one of the relegation places in the Championship, and they need to find a permanent manager as soon as possible, so that they can make their mark on the current crop of players.

It seems as though Cherundolo is one of the leading candidates to take charge at Oakwell, and the club clearly see him as a manager that can take them forward this season.

You have to trust their judgement, as Barnsley got their Stendel appointment right last season, as he guided them back into the Championship at the first time of asking.

Pro: Cherundolo was worked with younger players before

Cherundolo has managed Hannover's youth teams earlier in his coaching career, and that could be one of the main reasons as to why Barnsley are targeting him.

Barnsley have a number of young players on their books at the moment, and the former USA assistant coach could be the right manager to get the best out of them.

If he can improve them as players, then Barnsley will fancy their chances of retaining their status as a Championship club for another season.

Con: He doesn't have any experience in charge of a club

This will be the biggest concern for Barnsley when it comes to considering his faults as a coach.

Cherundolo hasn't managed a senior club at all in his coaching career, and that will lead to questions as to whether he is the right person to take charge at Oakwell.

The club's supporters will certainly feel as though there are better and more experienced managers out there to take them forward this season.

Con: Club football is a lot different to the international stage

Cherundolo has shown tremendous loyalty both in his playing career and his coaching career, which seemingly sits well with Barnsley.

But his most recent job in coaching was with USA as their assistant coach, which means that it would be somewhat of a risk to the Tykes appointing him as their new manager.

Club football is a lot different to working with a national team, and Barnsley will have to think about whether he could be trusted with a transfer budget to bring in players to aid their fight to survive in the Championship.
