It has been reported in the Daily Express that Aston Villa boss Dean Smith is keeping an eye on Millwall winger Jed Wallace, as he looks to add to his squad in January.

It is believed that Millwall have put a £10 million price tag on the right-winger, who has been a revelation this season for the Lions, scoring seven goals and providing four assists in 17 league appearances for the South London side.

The Express reports that the Villa boss sent down scouts to watch Wallace at the Liberty Stadium when Millwall took on Swansea on the 23rd November, where their target slotted home a free-kick to seal the win for his side.

We take a look at two pros and two cons of Villa potentially signing Wallace in January...

Wallace has shown his quality this season

This season has been Wallace's most prolific in the Championship to date, as he has scored seven goals - two more than he managed during the whole of last season.

However, it is not just his goals that have caught the eye of Dean Smith. His ability to beat a man with the ball at his feet, as well as his set-piece deliveries have helped his current side out on numerous occasions.

He would fit into Aston Villa's formation

Aston Villa regularly deploy a 4-3-3 formation under Dean Smith, with two wingers playing on either side of a sole striker.

Wallace would fit into this system well, as he likes to attack down the flanks regularly on the right hand side, drawing opposition defenders out of their positions to open spaces in the middle of the pitch.

He has never played at Premier League level before

He has not played above Championship level in his career, so it would be a step up for Wallace if he were to join Aston Villa in January.

This is his fifth season in the second tier, but the levels of concentration and work-rate in the Premier League is of a higher standard than in the Championship. It remains to be seen if it is a positive idea for Villa to opt for a player who may need time to adapt to the level required.

He may not get a look in

Aston Villa currently opt for Anwar El-Ghazi on the left wing in the Premier League, with Trezeguet also able to play in that role, which may not be good news for the 25-year-old midfielder.

Quiz: Can you name every Championship winning manager from the last 15 seasons?

That means that Wallace could possibly find himself down the pecking order at Villa Park, which could influence whether it would be the right move if Smith was to go in for the current Millwall man.
