Leeds United have had a terrific opening 12 matches in the Championship this season and currently sit in third place and just two points off first-place Sheffield United.

Marcelo Bielsa has transformed what looked like an ailing squad last season into a side capable of playing some of the best football in the league at a remarkably high intensity as well.

But it is possible that that high intensity could come back to bite them, especially with the small squad the Argentinian has at his disposal and the busy winter period approaching fast.

Already this season, he has been forced to play many players out of position, with the defence the main area that has needed cover.

Stuart Dallas covered the injured Barry Douglas at left-back against Brentford with Jamie Shackleton and Ezgjan Alioski also being asked to cover defensive roles through the season as well.

AS Argentina have today reported that the club could look to bring in Tottenham Hotspur defender Juan Foyth in the summer.

Here, then, are two pros and two cons to the signing...

Leeds desperately need cover and cannot continue to rely on the likes of Dallas to cover in defence.

Bielsa's tactical nous and player motivation will only take them so far and injuries will only continue to pile up over Christmas and January.

Many more and it will damage their season badly.

There is no doubt that Foyth is a very talented defender.

Tottenham would not have paid £12million on him last summer if he was not and at 20-years-old he still has a long way to improve as well.

He would be a very wise investment.

Leeds really need players coming in who are ready to play from the off.

Foyth's lack of match practice could prove to be a problem for the Whites if he arrives at Elland Road not up to the fitness Bielsa expects.

Central defence is not an area where the club are particularly lacking.

Gaetano Berardi and Connor Shaugnessey are both available for cover if Pontus Jansson, Liam Cooper or both get injured.

The club would be much better suited to finding cover for Luke Ayling at right-back or Douglas at left-back.
