Reading have had a fairly poor start to the season and sit in the relegation zone having lost five of their last six Championship fixtures.

The Royals have hit some awful form, and the pressure is really starting to mount on Portuguese boss Jose Gomes as he looks to improve on last season's finish.

Reading have shown glimmers of hope throughout the season and picked up a 3-0 victory over Cardiff in August where Gomes' side were fantastic.

Draws at high-flying Swansea and West Brom have also been positives, but there's been nothing substantial to suggest that the Royals will push on and be better than last season.

With the pressure starting to grow, here are TWO pros and TWO cons of Reading sacking manager, Jose Gomes...

The other options out there

If you look at the other options out there that Reading might look to attract, this could cause the owners to twist their hand.

We all know that the Royals have a lot of money at their disposal, and perhaps Chris Hughton might decide to take over at the Berkshire club. He's a manager who has proven pedigree at Championship level and could be a better option then current boss Gomes.

Other options include previously linked, Fernando Hierro and Luis Castro.

9 victories in 37

The record that Gomes has in the league at Reading is nothing to be admired. Yes, he saved the Royals from relegation last season but look where the side is after 11 games this campaign.

It's poor and he'll have to do better if he wants to keep his job, this is not what Reading fans would have expected after the summer business the side did ahead of the new season.

Need stability

A con of the Royals sacking him is that they'd be making yet another managerial change, having brought in Paul Clement and Jaap Stam in recent years, Reading need some stability.

He has been handed money, and put his own style on the side, obviously it will take time. But does he have it? Or will he be allowed it?

Fan relations

He has a great relationship with many of the supporters at the Madejski Stadium and brought back the feel good factor to Berkshire last season.

The bond was so good that they did a Portugal day for Gomes and his staff on the last day of the season, maybe sacking the manager may ruin the fans relationship that was on the rise with the club.
