Huddersfield Town boss Jan Siewert has work to do this summer after his side finished rock bottom of the Premier League last season, 20 points from safety.

The German has been quick to make changes to his squad during the transfer window as he prepares for his first full season in charge of the Terries and his first taste of the Championship.

Striker Josh Koroma has joined from Leyton Orient, midfielder Reece Brown has been brought in from Forest Green Rovers, and defender Tommy Elphick has made the switch from Aston Villa.

Siewert appears to have looked back to his former employers for his next addition and RevierSport have reported that the Terriers are close to completing a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Herbert Bockhorn.

According to the report, the 24-year-old will have a medical in Huddersfield today and then sign a two-year deal with the club.

If this is true then the Yorkshire club are on the verge of making their fourth signing of the summer.

With than in mind, we have examined two pros and two cons of Bockhorn’s potential arrival at the John Smith’s stadium.

Check them out below…

2 pros

He is a talented young player

Bockhorn is a graduate of the Werder Bremen academy and has been part of the Dortmund system since 2016, meaning he has developed at two Bundesliga stalwarts.

The defender has made 71 appearances for Dortmund II, scoring 10 goals and notching up seven assists, and will provide versatility, having played up and down both flanks.

There have been rumours about the future of Tommy Smith and Bockhorn could be an ideal replacement for him.

He knows Siewert and the manager knows him

The 24-year-old played under Siewert for 18 months for Dortmund II and made 41 appearances for the German coach during that time.

Siewert clearly trusts him as he has been quick to move for him in his first full transfer window as Terriers boss, while Bockhorn is understood to be keen to play under his former coach.

2 cons

He has a severe lack of first-team experience

While the Ugandan has notched up more than 80 appearances for Dortmund II and Werder Bremen II, his only senior appearances have been for Wiedenbruck, who play in the fifth tier of German football.

There should be some concern over whether the defender is ready to make the step up to consistent first-team football and the pressures that come with that.

He is unproven in English football or at Championship level

Huddersfield continue search for signings

Bockhorn has never played in English football and though he clearly has the confidence of the Terriers boss, given he is keen for a reunion, there will be questions over whether he can flourish in the Championship.

Huddersfield will likely be targeting challenging for the playoffs next season, which could be a big ask for a player who has never played above the German fourth tier.
