Following the news that Birmingham City have made contact with former England captain John Terry to bring the defender to the Midlands this summer, Harry Redknapp is really showing his intent to mount a promotion push.

The 36 year-old has been released by Premier League giants Chelsea, where he has spent nineteen years of his career, and is on the look-out for a new club before deciding to hang up his boots.

Terry racked up 78 caps for the national team, alongside over 500 appearances at domestic level for the Blues  - winning five top-flight titles, the same number of FA Cups and three League Cups among other trophies.

Admittedly, Birmingham City would seriously be strengthening their defence with the acquisition of the veteran centre-back and need to bring in that sort of quality to become a proper competitive side in English football again.

Here are TWO Premier League defenders who could follow John Terry to St. Andrew's this summer....Do you agree?

Nathan Ake

The Dutchman is highly-rated amongst the Chelsea ranks but will definitely need more game time to break into the first-team, and a loan swoop by Harry Redknapp would largely improve his defence.

Nathan Ake massively impressed during a stint at AFC Bournemouth last season after featuring in twelve outings and a large number of clubs have previously an interest in the 22 year-old.

Something that would be pivotal to Birmingham City is Ake's versatility across the back line; being able to play in either full-back position and centre-half, which could be really useful if he partnered alongside John Terry.

Cuco Martina

Cuco Martina, recently departed Southampton following his release, would be a magnificent addition to the Birmingham City squad, especially if he made them defensively sound in the Championship next term.

Having arrived at the Saints in 2015 from the Netherlands, the right-back has plenty of English football experience with his two years in this country and the Premier League minutes he has played would be vital to the Blues.

Martina made twenty appearances last campaign, so he fully match fit, and Redknapp should wrap this deal up as soon as possible to gel him into the first-team as pre-season training returns in the coming weeks.

Birmingham City fans, what do you think of the potential addition of John Terry? Would these two be satisfactory arrivals? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below!
