Wigan Athletic are currently fighting to retain their place in the Championship for a third consecutive season as things begin to get tight toward the bottom of the second tier.

The Latics were promoted back to the Championship in 2018 following the relegation the previous season and finished 18th last term following three wins and two draws in their last five games.

Following a recent run of good results, Wigan have given themselves a credible fighting chance of beating the drop once again this season as they look to stabilise themselves as a Championship club.

There could be a busy summer in store for the Latics regardless of what division Paul Cook's men find themselves in and some fans will be desperate to see the club retain their key players.

Here we take a look at two potential transfer scenarios that could play out at the DW Stadium over the summer...

Strikers could leave

Former Rangers man Josh Windass is currently on loan at fellow Championship side Sheffield Wednesday from the Latics having joined Garry Monk's men back in January.

The 26-year-old scored on his Owls debut at the start of February and should he continue to impress at the club the Owls could look to him as a replacement for the potential outgoing Jordan Rhodes.

Another striker who could attract interest over the summer is 27-year-old Kieffer Moore, who joined the club last summer from Barnsley.

Should the Latics drop into the third tier, it could be likely that both Windass and Moore move on for Championship football.

QUIZ: Do you know who Wigan signed these 15 players from?

A potential move for Will Grigg

Grigg only left the DW Stadium little over a year ago but has struggled to rediscover his form at the Stadium of Light that he enjoyed at the Stadium of Light.

As mentioned above, Wigan's current strikers could attract some interest over the summer and should any of those moves materialise the club will surely be in the market for a replacement.

The 28-year-old scored 65 goals in 150 appearances between 2015 and 2019 and he could be a logical choice for the Latics this summer.

The Sun on Sunday (15/12, p61), reported back in December that Blackpool, Swindon Town, and Salford City were interested in securing a move for the 28-year-old but no move materialised.

It seems set that Grigg will leave the Stadium of Light over the summer and the DW Stadium could be a logical destination.
