West Bromwich Albion are interested in signing Genk striker Mbwana Samatta, according to a report from Belgian news outlet Het Laatste Nieuws.

The 27-year-old was the top scorer in the Belgian top-flight last season and has found the back of the net ten times in 28 appearances for Genk so far this campaign.

The highly-rated centre-forward has no experience in English football, so there's every chance that he could be tempted by the opportunity to join the Baggies, who are currently inside the automatic promotion places in the Championship.

Here are TWO potential knock-on effects on West Brom, if Samatta were to make the switch to The Hawthorns this month...

Zohore falling further down the pecking order

Hal Robson-Kanu has scored six league goals for West Brom so far this season, while Charlie Austin has scored seven. Meanwhile, Kenneth Zohore has struggled to make an impact since his summer move from Cardiff City.

The 25-year-old has scored just two league goals for Albion so far this season, with both of them coming from the penalty spot.

He's struggled for game time in the Championship, with four of his twelve league outings for the Baggies coming from the substitutes' bench.

The striker hasn't started a league game for West Brom since August and if the club were to sign Samatta, he'd likely fall further down the pecking order.

Promotion to the Premier League

There's still a long way to go in the Championship promotion race, but West Brom have been excellent so far this season and have put themselves in a great position to return to the Premier League.

If the club can sign Samatta this month, he could potentially provide the goals to fire them back to the top flight. He's a clinical finisher and with he likes of Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana in the team, he'd get plenty of chances to score goals.

The striker has no experience in English football, but a top coach like Bilic could be able to get the best out of him and help him adapt. He's also played in the Championship League before, so he would arrive with good pedigree.

QUIZ: Can you name every West Brom player’s shirt number?

There's a good chance that West Brom will go on to win promotion this season, even if they don't sign Samatta, but he would certainly boost their chances of returning to the top flight.
