With the January transfer window just around the corner, Nottingham Forest have been linked with a loan move for Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos.
According to Greek media outlet Sportime, the Reds are interested in signing the left-side centre-back on loan, but he's also thought to have attracted the attention of Olympiacos.
Mavropanos has made eight senior appearances for Arsenal since joining the club from Greece just under two years ago and has featured just once for the Gunners this season - in the Europa League last week.
The 22-year-old currently has the likes of David Luiz, Sokratis, Calum Chambers and Rob Holding ahead of him in the pecking order at the Emirates Stadium, so it's possible that he could be open to a loan switch to the City Ground.
Here are two potential knock-on effects if Forest sign Mavropanos on loan...
Michael Hefele leaving the club
Forest head coach Sabri Lamouchi has a lot of options available to him at centre-back, with Joe Worrall, Michael Dawson, Tobias Figueiredo and Chema all featuring for the Reds in the position in the Championship this season.
There's also Michael Hefele, who hasn't played for the Reds in almost a year due to an Achilles injury, but he's returned to training and is expected to be available for selection soon.
Lamouchi has spoken very highly of him since he returned to training, but in reality, it's difficult to see him getting many chances in the team ahead of the likes of Worrall and Dawson.
If Forest were to sign yet another centre-back in January in Mavropanos, Hefele would fall even further down the pecking order and the German may want to leave the City Ground in search of regular first-team football.
Yohan Benalouane leaving the club
Yohan Benalouane was an important player for Forest last season, but he hasn't played for the Reds since April due to a hip problem.
The 32-year-old - who was signed by Martin O'Neill in January - has returned to training and is expected to be available for selection soon, but it remains to be seen whether Lamouchi will decide to give him a chance in the team.
QUIZ: What club did each of these 16 Nottingham Forest players sign from?
Alexander Milosevic - another centre-back who was signed by O'Neill - has already left the City Ground since Lamouchi took charge and if Mavropanos arrives in January, Benalouane could be the next to depart.
With his contract at the City Ground due to expire at the end of the season, Forest could decide to cash in on him in January, rather than letting him go for free next summer.
