It’s safe to say that Barnsley have taken a number of teams by surprise in the Championship this season, whilst under the management of Valérien Ismaël.
The Tykes are currently sat fourth in the second-tier standings, and will fancy their chances of building on some impressive performances since the turn of the New Year, as they battle for promotion into the Premier League.
But it appears as though those impressive performances haven’t gone unnoticed, with clubs registering their interest in some of Ismaël’s key players.
One of those to be linked with a move elsewhere heading into the summer transfer window is Callum Styles, with the midfielder being a rumoured target for Leeds United, as exclusively revealed by Football League World.
Styles has made 43 appearances in total for the Tykes this term, and has chipped in with five goals and three assists so far this season in all competitions.
A move to Elland Road with Leeds United could tempt the 21-year-old, with Marcelo Bielsa’s side currently sat tenth in the Premier League, in what is their first season back in the top-flight, after winning promotion from the Championship last year.
We take a look at TWO potential knock-on effects at Barnsley if they did offload Styles in the summer transfer window, amid his recent links to Leeds United.
Barnsley become somewhat of a ‘selling club’
Barnsley have been brilliant this season, and Styles’ performances have certainly warranted interest from clubs in the Premier League, as we head towards the summer transfer window.
But you would imagine that the Tykes will be doing everything they can to keep Styles at the club, especially after such an impressive league campaign this season.
If the Tykes are to establish themselves as a club heading in the right direction moving forwards, then they won’t want to become a ‘selling club’, that have their best players signed by other clubs.
Other players could follow Styles out the exit door in the summer if he was to depart, which would be far from ideal ahead of the 2021/22 season.
Are these facts about Barnsley's club badge true or false?
Sizeable profit on any potential move for Styles
Styles signed for Barnsley back in August 2018, for a fee believed to be in the region of £500,000 from Bury. He was an unproven talent back then, but has since gone on to impress in the Championship on a regular basis.
Therefore, you would imagine that Barnsley will be eager to get as much money as possible for him, and the Tykes could demand a fee upwards of £3million at least in this day and age.
Styles has age on his side still, and Barnsley are likely to get a sizeable profit on any potential sale of the young midfielder, who has caught the eye with a number of strong showings this term.
