Derby County's season is threatening to fizzle out after what has been a disappointing campaign.

The Rams currently languish in mid-table under the watchful eye of Phillip Cocu, and an unlikely play-off push looks to be over after a disappointing set of results of late.

It has been a hectic roller-coaster of a season for Derby - their pre-season was rushed due to the departure of Frank Lampard, which gave successor Cocu little time to bolster his squad with new signings.

Then, of course, he lost Richard Keogh due to injury which left him short of a strong option in defence - that hole was unable to filled in January, marking the end of a frustrating month in the transfer window.

Cocu will undoubtedly be looking to bolster his squad in the summer, after what have been two rather quiet transfer windows under the Dutchman thus far.

Here, we take a look at two potential transfer scenarios that we could see play out in the summer...

The departures of Florian Jozefzoon and Ikechi Anya

In order to make way for new signings, getting rid of the deadwood and the fringe players could be beneficial in helping them make additions.

Jozefzoon is one of those players who could be on his way out of Pride Park in the summer, with the Dutch winger failing to make an impact under Cocu this term.

The 29-year-old has made only two appearances for Derby since the middle of October - in his most recent cameo, he missed an open goal in a 1-1 draw with Fulham.

Anya is out-of-contract in the summer too, and the Scotland international hasn't made an appearance for Derby since their play-off semi defeat to Fulham in May 2018.

Both aren't earning their wage, and getting them off the books will be beneficial.

The arrival of a new winger

It's clear that Derby lack natural width in their squad and a new winger is likely to be on Cocu's radar in the summer.

Jozefzoon has flattered to deceive, Martyn Waghorn is much better when he plays up top, and it would be somewhat risky going into a new season with Jason Knight as a first-choice right-sided winger.

If Jozefzoon and Anya were to leave, then this would present Derby with a chance to bring in someone else who can make a definitive impact at Pride Park.

It's a key area of the pitch and they need to strengthen.
