After arriving last season with the side struggling, Chris Powell did a tremendous job turning Southen United's season around.

Having looked destined for a relegation scrap, Powell turned the Shrimpers around and took them to the cusp of the playoffs.

Although the form seriously dropped off in the final weeks of the campaign, hopes were high that they could better that tenth-placed finish in a weaker division this season.

But that has not been the case.

A 2-1 loss to struggling AFC Wimbledon was the club's fourth on the bounce following defeats to Blackpool, Barnsley and Sunderland the previous weeks.

It meant the Essex club dropped down to 15th place and are now just six points ahead of Bristol Rovers who occupy the final relegation spot.

Fans are becoming increasingly disgruntled that a talented squad is not being optimised and with that comes pressure on Powell.

Managers are becoming more and more dispensable so if Southend were to sack Chris Powell, who could replace him?

Here are two possibilities...

Flynn has done an outstanding job with Newport County this season on relatively little money.

The Welsh club currently sit comfortably inside the League Two play-off places despite being a tip for relegation at the start of the season.

He could, therefore, be the man to turn Southend's season around.

Hurst showed last season how much of a magic touch he can have in League One.

He took lowly Shrewsbury Town to the cusp of Championship football last season, only to lose out in the playoff final.

It is a league he knows well and would be a sensible appointment for Southend.
